I'm 6 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy and can't find anything to eat! Last time around I could only stand to eat peanut butter and strawberries for almost 3 months. I cannot do that again - I have a 2 year old to keep up with! The nausea just hit me over this past weekend and suddenly the smell of meat makes me sick. I can't even prepare a meal for my family without gagging. So far I've only been able to keep down fruit smoothies, animal crackers, dry toast, and plain pasta noodles. I'm hungry all the time. Suggestions please!

What can I do next?

I am with you! I am 6 weeks with baby #2 and here is what I eat on a regular basis:

- cereal
- toast with peanut butter or jelly
- almonds
- lots of fruit
- anything with carbs
- green smoothies - I mix a handful of organic baby spinach, lots of frozen strawberries, a banana, and OJ or apple juice, blend it in my magic bullet, and presto, a smoothie with tons of good things that I can stomach!

If you snack all day on healthy foods, you will be fine. Best of luck to you!!

Oh, you poor thing! I really thought the first trimester was way worse than the actual labor and delivery. At this point, I say just eat as much as you want of whatever sounds good to you. The baby isn't getting nutrition from you yet anyway.

I ate a lot of oatmeal - kept those little instant packets around. And a lot of fruit. I could only eat meat if it was very lean. I would get the 99% fat free turkey and eat it on pasta with tomato sauce. I seem to remember eating a lot of fruit. Oh, and pancakes and plain bread. If I made a point to keep eating all day long, I felt less sick. When I got distracted at work and didn't eat, that's when I would feel really bad. Lemonade helped me feel a little less sick, so did caffeine-free coke. Hang in there, mama!

I felt the same way, I definitely had more food aversions than cravings. My first 12-13 weeks, I lived on cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner mostly. I also craved alot of fruit, so I just bought the fruit trays already cut up because I was too tired to prepare anything. Mac and Cheese, cheese and crackers (I bought the individual packed kind that you dip the cracker sticks in the cheese - loved those!) and mashed potatoes were also pretty good - you can get those premade too. Good luck! It goes by fast!

I remember those days. I was so sick that all I could eat until my 7th month was dry lettuce, baked potato with a little butter, and water. I couldn't have anything that was too sweet, bitter, thick, creamy...nothing! That sucked! I'm part Italian and I LOVE to eat. I was miserable in my pregnancy. To this day I still can't drink milk or have ice cream as they both make me sick as a dog. Mom...just do what you can, you know your body best.

with my daughter the only thing I could eat first trimester was spaghetti o's.
I dunno why but the tomato sauce settled my tummy.

Also try sucking on a peppermint or eating crystallized ginger to help settle your stomach.

Congratulations!

Nausea is due to low blood sugar levels and I have helped other Moms by recommending a whole food B Complex as a daily supplement, a non-GMO protein powder and peppermint/ginger tea is also helpful when needed. One of the Moms I am working with now, is pregnant with her 3rd child and was very sick with her first two children. She was amazed what a difference adding B Complex and protein has made for her. I have a document I can send you with other helpful natural remedies during pregnancy, during labor to reduce pain and afterwards for a quick recovery. Please let me know if you would like me to share these with you, you can email me at ____@____.com and I will send them. I can also help you with your nutrition if you would like help. Congratulations again and good luck!

I just wanted to say I can sympathize. I'm a few days behind you, and nothing even sounds good, the idea of eating makes me gag. thank goodness for vitamins, and juice. You can try eating small amounts more often, and not drinking when you eat. some say protein actually helps, others say carbs. it's totally not helpful but i've taken to going to the store daily to shop for dinner, i buy whatever looks good and hope it sits well.

and as with everything in life, this to shall pass, and it's so worth it in the end.

During my first pregnancy, I was really sick. But what worked for me was raw! Raw fruits, raw veggies, eating in handfulls pretty constantly. I always had a bag of carrots with me, or chopped apples. The sugars in the fruits help you keep your energy up and as long as you're eating pretty constantly, you won't feel that hungry. Good luck.

I only ate ice cream willingly for the first trimester. I had to leave the room and sometimes the house with certain cooking smells. It was awful. Fruit smoothies are my best recommendation. Make sure you are putting yogurt in them to get more protein. I wouldn't start putting powders or supplements in them, but if you look into health food smoothies, you could probably find a bunch of stuff you could add and not taste. Wheat germ and flax seed might be good, check into those. Even just a tiny bit is helpful. See if you can find websites for people who do juicing, they put all kinds of crazy healthy veggies into juicers and supposedly you cant taste them. And unless the peanut butter strawberry diet made you feel bad, there is nothing wrong with that. You will be able to eat more later. My exhaustion had nothing to do with what I was eating (or not eating), unfortunately. Congratulations!

Ask your OBGYN about the prenatal vitamin fobecal (I forget if that's its real name or generic--the brand might be premesis or something like that). It has the vitamin b6 (I think? or is it B12) in it that helps some folks with nausea. It helped me tremendously with my third pregnancy. Though not at all w/my current, 4th pregnancy. :( But it's worth testing out. For this pregnancy I ate a lot of granola mixed with raisin nut bran. LOL Boring, but you find what works and go with it. I also (with this preg) couldn't stand meat...my little ones had lots of grilled cheese and PBJs for dinner for a while because cooking meat made me gag. Ick! :) Happily mine is past now (17wks along). I wish you a quick passing of yours! Oh just forgot one more thing...peppridge farm cinnamon bread toasted w/butter. Yum!

I am right there with you.
This week I am 7 weeks preg. with my 5 child.
This is the first time I have ever felt so sick.
Any kind of food makes me sick.
I hate it when it is time to make a meal, because of the smells and just having to look at it. It all makes me sick.
My husband and MIL THINKS IS FUNNY.
But I can tell you it is not funny.

I am sorry, but I have no advice for you because I am hungry and can't eat as well.

I am also so very tired and I have to PEE all of the time, how about you?

I wish you the best and I hope you get what you are wishing for (girl/boy).

God bless. = )

Oh I remember those days! How about cereal (something like Rice Krispies is mild and doesn't have much of an odor) or pancakes (they are pretty filling. I was able to eat them when dealing with pregnancy nausea)? Just do your best and remember the nausea is only temporary. Good luck with your pregnancy!

How about oranges? For some reason I could eat those when I felt sick.

Honestly, don't worry about nutrition, just eat whatever you feel like you can keep down. The baby will get all s/he needs no matter what you eat. You can fill in the nutritional gaps once you're feeling better.
