Wrap toes in a paste made from acidophilus. Sleep with it on the toes.
Depending on how long it has been going on- will effect how long it takes to resolve. Best,k
So my mother was over today and i got a really good look at her toe nails..they are becoming infected and it looks like fungus is growing under the nails.. is there any medication someone might have tried maybe to rub in them without having to take it in a pill form? Or if anyone has tried anything that has def. worked for them id really appreciate any impute. thank you in advance. take care
Thank you to all that responded. I got enough information to help her out by first seeing a doctor and taking it from there. i might try some home remedies as well. I'll let you all know what helped and didn't soon hopefully. thank you again. take care

Tea tree oil is supposed to work well for fungus.
If your mother is a diabetic please don't do a home remedy take her to a podiatrist. Many times you will save time and money if you just go to the doctor in the first place my niece is a diabetic and she tried some over the counter and home remedies lets put it this way, she now goes to the doctor first it saves her money and possible making a situation worse.
Try grapefruit seed extract in liquid form you can buy it at the health food store. Also very good for colds and soar throats it kills everything.

This is a common infection, but she really should go to a podiatrist to have it definitely diagnosed. If it is a fungus infection, the only thing that will cure it is taking the oral medicine for 3 months OR using the cream on her toenails every day (and you can't miss a day) for a full year. But she really should see a podiatrist so she knows exactly what she is dealing with. With everyone suggesting all these different home remedies, it could prolong her problem because it may not be the exact thing that the other person had.
Hi L.,
Shelly's right. Tea tree oil, specifically high grade melaleuca oil, will get rid of the fungus fast as well as any kind of bacterial infection. You should know in a couple of days...Put it directly ON the nail. It will actually absorb through the nail so don't just put it around the nail.

You can go the the drugstore (I think I got mine from Walgreens) and pick up some clear liquid iodine. Apply a fairly good amount all over the toe nail. It also a good idea for the first time to trim the nail and then file down the top part of the nail like you were thinning the nail down before apply so that the iodine gets inside the effected nail. Be careful when filing as that the nail can be somewhat soft from being effected and can break off in layers. Do this EVERY day a least once a day for several weeks. Fungus problems are a booger to get under control. Once you start to see health return to the nails continue to treat at least a few days more. Some people even use a weak bleach soak to destroy the fungus during treatment, but you have to be careful as you know bleach can be really bad and burn the skin. So it needs to be really diluted well.
Hope this helps,

My husband had a toenail infection a few years back. He rubbed vitamin E oil on and around the nail every day, within a few weeks it was gone, and never came back. You can buy vitamin E oil in a bottle, or just get the capsules, which may be a little less expensive...break open the capsule and squeeze the oil out.
Soaking it in 2.5 grade Kangen Water will fix this issue. You can learn about this amazing water at a presentation on Tuesdays or Thursdays at a 7:00pm meeting at Dr Adams office in Cypress Point (near Countryside Mall)
If you'd like to try it - I can bring you some.

If it's really bad, she might just need to get the medicine for the fungus.
However, and it might sound crazy, Vick's vapo rub massaged into the nails is really great. I think it's the eucalyptus in it. Campho and soaking in epsom salts might work well too.
Keep the toes clean, dry very well even with a blow dryer to remove dampness and slather vapo rub on them.
I used vicks for toe fungus once... it totally worked.. !
Tea tree oil works well to get rid of fungus. It doesn't work overnight but with daily applications, it will get rid of it. Hope that helps!
Your mom can try Penlac, is an antifungal nail laqcuer, that is applied daily, but is by prescription, so I recommend she goes to see a Podiatrist.
It will take about a whole year to grow a nice healthy nail, but it works!
Good luck.

Peroxide its the best and safest thing to use. Just get her to soak her toe in it.its also what hospitals use to clean with because its much safer than bleach but has the same affect and it doesnt stink like bleach. i use it on every thing even stains on whites.
Just dont use it on a cut that is healing it will take off the scab and your body has to start the healing process all over again.
good luck
