A favorite at my kids' school has been when they divide into teams and have a relay of unwrapping the Hershey's kisses with oven mitts on.
Hello Moms, Does anyone have a suggestion or two for a fun and easy game to play at a school Winter Party? My son is in the 2nd grade, so it would need to be fairly easy. I am somewhat challenged in the party department. I know some of you are really creative, so I thought I'd ask for help.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!! M.
A favorite at my kids' school has been when they divide into teams and have a relay of unwrapping the Hershey's kisses with oven mitts on.
I always felt that since I was a simgle mom going to school that I had to participate in my oldest sons parties, loved every minute. I would stress over the perfect games, but found the kids just liked the simple "no brianers". Picture bingo using holiday m and m's as markers, memory tray (I would use this 2 fold having an item for each student from the dollor store on a tray I would let each student look at the tray for 30 secs or so and once all had seen the items cover it up and give the kids 1 min to write down what they saw the kid with the most right picked a prize from the tray first and so on, or stuff the tree in this case 2 teams 2 xl green shirts smallest kid on each team wears the shirt while the others in a relay formation carry a balloon between the legs or somehow funny stuffing the tree at the end of whatever timeframe the kid who has managed to get and keep the most balloons in wins.(this was done at valentines with red but can be incorporated where ever) Good luck dont over think remember its second grade and have fun.
When I was a kid we played 2 games that I loved. Clothes pin drop requires some old clothes pins and a mason jar. For the older kids, have them stand on a stool, old the clothes pin at chest level and see how many they can drop into the jar. I normally use 4-5 clothes pins and the kids love it.
The other one that I'd do is to take a big bowl and fill it with cotton balls. Use a big spoon to see how many you can get out in 2-3 turns. I would test out the bowl and spoon before this game to make it more challenging. Its a pretty fun game. You'd think it would be easy but not so much!
Hope that helps.
I really picked up on the "winter" party part of your request!...as in trying to avoid "Christmas" references.
So avoiding biblical/Christmas references: how about Pin the Nose on the Snowman...using a foam cut-out for the carrot & a poster board for the snowman? You could decorate the snowman simply with just crayons/markers or glue on scraps of fabric for the scarf/mittens/etc.
Another project would involve scissors & have the kids cut paper snowflakes...which I consider a lost art! Somewhere, there is actually a website which will teach you how. The kids can then decorate them with glue & glitter. Hmmm, sounds like a project for the very brave!
Decorating cookies is also for the very brave, & might not be a good idea for this year's flu scares. BUT it is fun!
For a winter version of Hot Potato, wrap a foam ball or ornament with batting/fiberfill & let the kids have at it with a mess-free snowball.
As always, I recommend checking out Family Fun's website for awesome ideas! Have fun & good luck!
Hi! One thing my son loves to do and we did it last year and are going to do it this year too is the reindeer feed. You have the kids make it and they loved it. Oats, glitter or if you prefer, candy sprinkles and that is all that is in the mixture. Have the kids put that in a baggie, make up some ties from curling ribbon and attach a note card to it. You can look on line for different sayings, but the one I used last year was
Sprinkle this in your yard on Christmas Eve night.
The light of the moon will make it sparkle bright. As Santa’s reindeer fly and roam, this will guide them to your home!
The kids loved making this. When I make the tags, I type them up on the computer on business cards, hole punch a hole, attach curling ribbon to them and then once the kids have their bags made up, they tie this on to it and there you go.
Another game is to get Vasoline and have the kids rub it on their checks and chin, then they stick their face in cotton balls and when they pull their face up, they will look like Santa.
My son is also in 2nd grade and trust me, the easiest games are the ones that the kids really love! This is my third year for being a room coordinator and the kids just love to have a good fun time, ask the kids, they will give you some ideas too.
Hope this helps you out!
My husband's family has a snowball fight every year with the styrofoam balls (I have a huge laundry bag filled with them) and I took this to my sons preschool class and they had an absolute BLAST! All the kids thought I rocked....of course the parents didn't think it was an "appropriate" game for Kindergarten...throwing things at eachother, getting hurt, blah, blah, blah...sorry was kinda miffed because even the Preschool teachers thought it rocked.... point is...they are kids...styrofoam, paper wads...we never seem to get enough snow to actually HAVE a snowball fight so why not simulate one that isn't as cold?? Tons of fun, lots of laughter, gallons of giggles, and will wear them out! :)
This is something I remember from one of my school parties, we had a "snow ball fight" only it was indoors and we used wadded up paper balls. I know it sounds terribly wasteful, I think after the fact we used it for an art project that called for stuffing white trash bags to look like a Big snow man for the classroom. I know I was pretty young, so my memory is fuzzy, I just remember thinking wow we never get to do stuff like this! I would definitely ask the teacher if she was on board with this idea if you decided to go with it! Otherwise you could make your own version of a pin the tail except make a snow man out of construction paper and have them put on the carrot nose or even top hat = ) A simple craft is always fun you can get those foamy art projects from the Oriental Trade Company in bulk.
Decorate cookies! Sing some carols or play musical chairs using Christmas music. Make an easy take home treat of Snowman soup "Snowman Soup"
Was told you've been real good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
You'll need to warm the spirit.
So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, sip it slow.
It's sure to do the trick!
1 individual packet hot chocolate mix
2-3 chocolate kiss candies
10-15 mini-marshmallows
small candy cane
print the saying out and attach to a zip lock baggy with the goodies = )
Hope you have a ton of fun...most importantly don't stress, the kids will have fun.

I have not read any of the other replies so sorry if I am duplicating ideas!
What about:
1. Cotton ball snowmen
2. Cotton ball snowy pictures
3. Foam winter pictures (Wal-Mart has a bunch of different holiday foam stickers)
4. Make-a-Christmas card
5. Write a letter to Santa
6. Play "How many words can you find in Merry Christmas"
7. Make a stocking (out of felt or construction paper)
8. Get a small snowman or holiday themed item and place it in a bowl of something and have the kids blindfolded and try to find it
9. Pin the nose on Rudolph
