Hi All,
I am the confirmation sponsor for my Godson, who is 14 years old and in 9th grade. I am looking for gift ideas, aside from money. I gave him a nice gold cross and chain for his 1st Communion and he still has it/wears it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maybe a daily Bible devotional for Catholic Teens. Or Contemporary Christian Music (lots of different musical styles).

Congratulations.

It might not have to be 'religious' but just thoughtful. For all my Godchildren, I started some sort of a collection. And for one in particular, I started collecting pewter things - first book ends, then a switch plate, a cup...but the benefit to it is that these pieces will grow with him - unlike a doll collection for a little girl, for example. So when he made his First Communion, I gave him a pewter cross, then for Confirmation, gave him a Holy Water dispenser for next to his bedroom door. I plan on providing more 'grown up' items for his graduation, etc. Hope this helps, and good luck!

I see a few people have reccomended a Bible, which is a great idea. Look around your local Catholic bookstore--I'm sure there are other books written for teens that would be good.(One bookstore comes to our parish a couple times a year and sells books in the hall after all the Masses, but I can't remember the name of the store.) Another great book is "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S.Lewis. It's not geared specifically toward Catholics, but it's very good, and gives alot of insight into why people are tempted into sin. It was written in the 1940's and it's set in London during the Blitz...it's a collection of letters from a senior devil to a junior demon on the best way to tempt humans. It's entertaining but also contains lots of wisdom. Good luck!

Hi

If you have a little free time, I just like to walk around a religious gift store and then ask the clerks. I always find just the right thing that way.

I forget the name but the store at 12 and Van Dyke has a wonderful gift section.

Does he already have a copy of the catechism? If not it's always nice to have one to learn even more of our faith. They have a companion to the catechism titled "JESUS, THE CATECHISM, AND ME by Rev. Robert J. Levis, Ph.D." that is written just for students.

Happy Shopping :)
God Bless

At that age I think a nice watch or ring would be nice. However I'm Italian and that's pretty much the norm around our family. When I got confirmed I was given all kinds of jewelery.

My brother's sponsor gave him this really nice Marble Chess set...that may have been his graduation...I don't remember.

Mostly we do w/a ring, bracelet, gold chain, or a watch, or just give money. I like the idea of a watch b/c I don't really like to see too much jewelery on men.

Depending on your budget Sam's and Costco usually have good watches for a good price (80 to over 1000). The pricy watches are Movado...rediculous for a watch.

Also, Kohl's is having a huge sale this weekend and they usually have some good brands as well...plus for every $50 you spend this weekend you get $10 Kohl's cash!

If you do go w/ a bible there are all kinds of new comtemporary designs these days.

Hope you find something soon! Good luck and God Bless.

Hi S., how about a new bible. They have great bibles for teenagers that are geared toward either boy or girl. The one i'm thinking of has side notes and studys that deal with teen issues.Get it personalized with his name and you're all set!
