My cousin just me an email that she got a new job.
I'm so excited for her.
She is embarking on a new career.
She's about my age.
I would like to buy her a congratulatory gift to celebrate this next chapter in her life.
Her commute won't be much different.
What can I buy her to celebrate & wish her well in her new venture?
I'm on a budget so can't spend too much money. Any ideas on the cheap? TIA

I think a token would be sweet and very thoughtful of you Micky! Is there a Disney movie that means something to you or her? Browse the Disney Store and send her something as little as a keychain or a mickey M. sorcerer in a card with something cute written. something like "You must be a Wizard to have made this happen for you." Or find a Jimney Cricket toy and write, "Dreams can come true." You get the idea. Cheap tokens can be the most special ones!

What about a nice journal with engraved pen set?
New travel mug?
Jewelry?

I like the Things Remembered store, they have a variety of nice gifts that you can engrave.

Why do you have to buy a cousin a gift for getting a new job? Is this a tradition in your family that a person who has a job change needs presents? I think a congratulatory card is more than enough.

She just sent you an email and didn't even call you personally, but you are going to rush off and spend your hard earned and modest disposable income on a present?

If you speak to her as though she were a friend (which is doesn't seem like, given she didn't call you), then give her a call congratulating her and ask her all kinds of questions and let her talk about her exciting new venture.

Don't mean to sound cranky, but honestly, if you don't have money for a gift then don't give one - be a pal and give her a call, or send her a card if you feel like you have to give her something tangible as acknowledgement.

When I got my first office job (I had worked retail for years), I was so excited! All of my family knew I had the interview and when I got the call back I quickly called my grandparents, as my Nana was probably my biggest supporter. Later that week, I got a small package in the mail and my Nana had gotten me a nice pen/pencil set with my name engraved. It wasn't a super expensive set and she probably spent more on the engraving than the actual pen/pencil but I absolutely loved it and I loved using it at my new desk. So a cute pen/pencil set is a nice gift. If she will have business cards, maybe a cute business card holder. You could also get her a coffee mug for her desk (you can buy a white mug from the dollar store, use sharpie to decorate it- like her monogram- and then bake it, the sharpie won't come off). You could also get her one of the decorate your own coffee travel mugs from starbucks and put family pictures in it. You could order her a personalized M. pad; or a cute picture frame that has a collage of pictures of friends and family to decorate her desk; make her a calendar for her desk (my sister every year makes me an Elvis calendar for me desk); a cute holder for post its or small pieces of paper for quick note taking (I have one it's about a 4x4 box that holds like a little memo pad (a bit bigger than post its) and the top of the box has a picture of my son); maybe a new lunch bag with her monogram on it; or a cute portfolio case, that would hold her paper/pen/post it/highlighters for meetings; or if she able to have a coffee maker on her desk, I love mine =)
Congrats to your cousin!
Take care,
H.
