My husband is deploying to Kosovo for a year this fall and I'm looking for some gift ideas (birthday / anniversary). I'm not sure what he can or can't take with him but I'd like him to have some helpful things as well as things to remember us by. I have a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old boy. Thanks in advance for the ideas!!

What can I do next?

My Dad and Uncle just started a business making shirts and etc with a printing machine they bought. Sorry I don't know what the real terms/names are. Anyways I had him make some pillow cases for my friend who's husband just deployed. He put pictures of them on both sides of white pillow cases. Now the whole family, including her husband, can go to sleep with their loved ones. I got the idea when my friend told me her son was having lots of issues sleeping since her husband was deployed. Now he has a pillow case with him and daddy on one side and a family pic. on the other. For her husband I did a picture of the family on one side and a picture of him and his son on the other. For her, one side has a family pic and the other is her and her husband together. They turned out really nice! If you're interested email him at ____@____.com All you would have to do is email him the pictures. They also do embroidery. Hope this helps!

Get a good picture of your family made before he leaves. He will be restricted by the weight of what he can take with him, so it may be better to see what he needs once he gets there, and take advantage of the one price boxes at the post office where everything you can stuff in the box ships for one price. That way, you will know what he is missing over there. They can usually get most of what they really need at the BX, but you never know what will be missing.

God Bless,
M.

You could create a small flip book or storybook with photos of you and your family that your husband will treasure forever. Click on the link for a sample flip book from our template gallery. I would love to help you get started if you are interested. Y. - www.DesignAStorybook.com

Someone mention in a previous post a zipper-pull with a small locket style pix of you and the kids....also anything American he will not be able to get there, his favorite personal products for example....and M. thank you and him and the rest of your family for the sacrifices you make for the rest of us every day! God Bless!

I think that the photo book is a great idea also a digital photo frame that he could keep at his desk. When my hubby was deployed we would send him packages with cards, pictures my kids made from him and his favorite snacks.
Also if you didn't know you can go to Airman and Family Readiness Center ( family support) and they will make t shirts or pillow cases with your husbands picture on them for the kids. My kids loved their pillow cases when my hubby was deployed. They felt like they could sleep closer to their daddy! Take care and God Bless!!!

Digital photo frame. Then he can have tons of pics of his family, friends, pets, special events, etc. They have keychain sized ones too that would be very portable for him to take with him.

A small recording device with special messages you and your kids recorded for him so he can still hear your voices when he is away. You can get them from Staples or other office supply stores and probably Walmart too.
