You can give her water now. You just don't want her to fill up on it, You don't need to worry to much about that though.

My ped said they don't need water at all until much later. Breast milk or formula is all they need.

My pediatrician at 4 months said I could give my boys water. I do remember though at 2 months he said if they ever got really constipated I could give them some apple juice mixed with water (1 part AJ to 4 parts water) with a max of 1 ounce total. I think they are just concerned that they will take the water and then not take milk/formula when they still need the nutrition. Im not sure 1 ounce will do you much good...I would say just try to hold out a couple more weeks.

Ditto what the previous 2 others said.
Keep in mind, that for the first year of life, a baby's PRIMARY source of nutrition is from breastmilk/formula.
Just be patient, soon enough, you will be able to give baby water. You don't want baby to fill up on water or get full from it, thereby "missing" a nursing or feeding from formula....and if you "miss" a nursing, by replacing it with water, this can also affect your milk production.
If baby is constipated, ask your Pediatrician.
Take care,
~Susan

I asked my doctor this too b/c when it gets hot out and I'm thirsty, I wonder if they are too. But she told me that until they are 6 mos or older, they really don't need water b/c they are so small everything that goes into their body should have nutrition in it. Stick with milk or formula until at least 5 or 6 mos of age. You should also ask your doctor incase you have special medical circumstances.

Most peds recommend no water before 4 months. Normally water begins when cereal/ foods are started.

Hello! Although peds say no water until 4-6 months, I think they mean in a bottle. I know I gave my son water on hot days, but just enough to refresh his mouth. This also helped him to LOVE water now and learn to drink from a cup. Don't worry, just do what you feel is right!

hi tammy! you can actually give your baby water now as long as you either boil it first or use spring water or that special water for babies you can get at cvs or babies r us. but i'd still boil it though! however, don't just give water! you still have to give your baby milk.
