My mom is coming into town for Mother's Day and she has been diagnosed with Celiac disease. She has to be on a gluten-free diet now. Does anyone know where I can go in the McKinney/Frisco/Allen area to get some gluten-free groceries for when she's here? Thank you very much!

What can I do next?

Dear A.:

The natural foods section of Kroger has gluten-free breads and products in the refrigerated section. Also read your labels, many soups aren't thickened with wheat anymore and will say "gluten-free" on the label, the same with ketsup. Whole Foods is also another choice. They probably have the best selection.

If you need ideas for going out to dinner, Mexican can work well, with all the rice and bean dishes. You can also buy different kinds of non-wheat flour and make pizza crusts, muffins, et cetera, without wheat. They just tend to be a little crumbly, but taste great. There are many very good recipes if you search "gluten-free."

L. F., a friend's mom has Celiac disease and my niece as a young child had an intolerance to wheat, so we learned to be creative!

Sprouts has tons of stuff. All their gluten free is 25% off right now too. I love how they do their store too by putting stickers by the price that tell you if that item is gluten free.

Market Street has a great selection as does Whole Foods. The best pasta replacements that I have found are the tinkyada brand. The other ones are good but they don't cook up to quite the same texture as whole wheat. PM me if you have questions. I've recently made our life as gluten free as possible.

Sprouts has a great selection and they are even cheaper than Walmart on the same items.

I have to eat gluten free and I do all of my shopping at Market Street. They have a large section of breads, mixes, and pastas. Their frozen food section is great as well.
