I am going to be hosting a dinner party in the next few weeks and the guest of honor has celiac disease. Do any of you have any good dinner ideas that are gluten free and would also be delicious for everyone else? I know she really loves salads so I'm thinking of doing a yummy salad for the main course but then what else?
Thanks so much for any suggestions any of you may have. You are always so helpful!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and advice. I didn't realize there were so many options and so many restrictions at the same time. I see it is possible to make a healthy and tasty meal that everyone can enjoy. I appreciate the websites and the cookbook suggestions. They have been very helpful.
Thank you!!!!

It will be easier if you stick to all natural foods. Chicken, pork roast, beef roast, vegetable, potatos etc.. salad is great but put dressings on the side some have gluten/wheat in them. You have to be careful with soups also. Pretty much anything not made from scratch could have gluten in it unless labeled. If you are making salad and want a bread to go with it Udi makes a great white bread. I use Glutino pretzels and corn chips on my salad instead of croutons. You could make a fruit salad to go with it also. For dessert you could make the Hersey brownie recipe with GF flour. It only takes 1/2 cup so it really does not change the taste. Add some fresh raspberries and a little whip cream and it would look wonderful. The Betty Crocker cakes mixes are also very good and they have some great recipes on their site.

Most anything you do can be made gluten free. My mom cannot eat wheat as well, so we are always careful around her. For an appetizer, anything fresh is always good (shrimp cocktail, antipasto, etc.).

For dinner, have your salad and you can always make rice, couscous, potatoes, etc. as a side if you felt the need. They sell gluten free bread, but honestly, it is pretty nasty most of the time. (My mom usually refuses to eat it because she dislikes it so much). I wouldn't put any sort of sauce or dressing on anything as many have a form of wheat. You can always ask your guest if she has a favorite dressing that is gluten free.

Finally, for dessert, I suggest doing something non-heavy. You could always make bananas foster with vanilla ice cream or something similar. My mom is amazing with using rice flour to create desserts, but if you haven't tried them before, it is very difficult to get the texture/thickness right, so I wouldn't make that night my first attempt. A lot of quality bakeries will have gluten free options, so you may want to call them as well.

How nice of you to think so much about your friend! I know my mom appreciates it greatly when people think about her needs too!

I have recently tried this gourmet chocolate from chocoley. It's easy to use and can be used for anything. It is celiac and allergy safe, so would be perfect for making a dessert for her, plus it tastes delicious. I even have a coupon code for you, LITTLELOVABLES15 (it expires May 20).

You can get really good mixes. Bread, brownies, cakes, cookies....they are all really good.

You can get GF pizza crust and do pizza. Or There is pasta..my favorite and is the best taste comparison to regular pasts is Ancient Quinoa Harvest. It is yummy. My kids dont even notice the difference. My hub says he can but he is full of it!! You can do GF lasagna. They have the no cook noodles.

You want to make sure that the sauce is GF as well. The Classico brand is either all GF or has specific ones and it will say it on the label. Its been so long since I have even looked cause I get the same on every time now. Be sure to check all labels on whatever you decide to serve!!

Check out this website :

These are all reader submitted recipes and are rated by how easy they are to prepare. If nothing else, it will give you a good idea of what you can do. You would be surprised at what has gluten in it (vanilla!!!), so read labels carefully if you are buy prepared items.

Good luck and have fun!

Rice and fresh veggies are always gluten free. So are yams/sweet potatoes. Of course a nice marinated veggie and chicken kebob over saffron rice is a great dish. Or if you want to go with meat and a sweet potato that's yummy too. I don't have specific recipes, but search foodtv.com for specific ingredients or food types and you'll get tons of ideas.

Also, if you're looking for desserts, we have found Bob's Red Mill gluten free brownies are amazing, with a little vanilla ice cream you're set.

Two of my children are gluten-free. I have found that most of the things I make are gf already (minus the pasta). We make roasts with vegies (from Pioneer Woman, but make sure you use gf beek stock), garlic chicken, soups, oh, I'm drawing a blank right now! I would not recommend pasta as the gf pasta isn't the best tasting (although Tikyada is the best on the market). You can do normal meals, just make sure the ingredients are gf (soy sauce is not, but you can buy gf soy sauce, for example). Celiacs cannot eat vinegar, for example. You can also do steaks on the grill. If you marinate them, make sure you use a gf marinade. You can even ask your guest if she has a particular marinade she recommends. Salads are a great idea, also. You can put grilled chicken in it to add a bit of protein and help the men cope a bit better. hehe (if there will be men there) I do make gf breads that are delicious, but I mill my flours, which makes a world of difference. Let me know if you want me to share the recipes with you. I have a recipe for foccassia bread and hummus if you want them also. Very yummy and easy to make (and gf). You can just do the foccassia (I really don't think I am spelling that right, but oh, well!) and not the hummus also. For dessert, you can do a fruit dish, a pudding/fruit dish, chocolate something (truffles or something), a gf cake (I made a delicious chocolate cake for my daughter's birthday and was shocked at how good it was). I have a book called 1000 gf recipes by Carol Ferstner. It's a great book, and maybe your library has it. But, PM me if you want recipes specifically.
