Good Child Eye Dr You Love?

i am looking for a good children's eye Dr in the McHenry area.... i took my daughter for her first exam last year to the Pearle in Crystal Lake and had the woman there examine her and she gave us glasses, recommended an eye patch and we are now ready to go for her appointment again. My problem is that I recently found out that the eye Dr that saw her isnt there, and i thought I liked her very much... but after googling to try to find maybe where she moved to, I found many complaints online about her, many. her name was Carla Fagliola (or something close to that) and with the things I am reading, I am fearing that I didnt even get a proper diagnosis from the get go and am now nervous of where to go for a trusted, kid friendly exam. The new Dr at Pearl isnt very kid friendly, has a strong accent and my daughter had a problem understanding her and they werent very "warm and fuzzy" to say the least..... so I need to find a place that will make her comfortable since I will want her to have a full exam and not just a follow up since I dont trust our initial recommendation now. Any advice would be appreciated.....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

well, i ended up making the appt at the ForEyes in algonquin and took her yesterday. I talked it up so big because she was so nervous and first I want to say that I totally appreicate all the replies, and Tammy C, I really appreicated your opinion and how quickly you chimed in on this, but I swear I am still shaking my head on how we could have POSSIBLY met the same Dr Whitty. I couldnt have HATED him any more... I kept looking at his nametag thinking, there is no possible was in this world that he is the same guy in that response... must be his evil twin? He was NOT friendly, not only didnt he make my daughter giggle or even get comfortable, i dont think he smiled at either of us ONCE. My daughter is 7, so i get that it was a different experience, but I spend the drive home apologizing to my daughter for taking her there, and will never step a foot in there again. He was clearly annoyed from the get go that i was a bit nervous, which had me uncomfortable from the start, he was short with my daughter and i was waiting for the tears because he was being so "down to business" with her. I swear I thought I was in a nightmare and more than once I almost stood up and walked out. At the end of the appt, after he did NOT explain anything to me about the prescription, I had to come out and ask if she was near of far sighted. THEN he asked if either of us had any questions and i couldnt believe my daughter was going to actually speak up because i could see how nervous she was, and she said "do i reallly need glasses?" which she was not being silly, she went there hoping that her eyes had improved since the last year because they told her if she wore her patch like she should, her eyes could improve, and he turned his chair around to the desk and completely ignored that quesiton and then proceeded to say.. "OK, well does anyone have any SERIOUS questions then?" honest to God I got a lump in my throat and I thought you complete a-hole.. how dare you be so rude to her, she is a little GIRL. so anyway, i could go on and on about this experience but i think that is pretty much it in a nutshell. We will never step foot in there again, didnt order glasses there, and actually paid for an exam that was pretty much a waste of time since he referred me to another Dr in arlington heights for another exam that specializes in her left eye's "special vision situation" but dont ask me what that would BE since he didnt really EXPLAIN IT TO ME and i was afraid the QUESTION WASNT SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR HIM, so i just walked out with the referral and started apologizing to my girl on the way to the car. UUUGH! i should add that i loved everyone else in the office, they were all sweet as could be to her and did make her smile. so Tammy, you certainly caught Whitty on a good day or something, or i caught him on a very bad day, but for sure i couldnt recommend him to my worst enemy. thanks everyone for listening! i feel a little less aggravation now :o)

I like the eye dr at Costco - Lake in the Hills. She isn't a Costco employee, she just rents the space. My daughter is 10 and has received glasses and contacts from there. Her name and info is on Costco.com under that location.

My other daughter goes to Dr. Mittelman - a ped eye specialist in Des Plaines. He and his staff are really good with the kids.

hope this helps!

I have 2 Drs I would recommend! The first one is Dr Heinke at Family Eye Care of Woodstock, Ltd. The phone number is ###-###-####. She prescribed my daughter her glasses and we were SHOCKED to find that my daughter is more than 1/2 blind. For that alone I would recommend her since my daughter is not even 3 yet! But that is the only reason I would recommend her! The only problem I did have there is that she could not explain in terms that I understood what it meant... although she did get blunt and told me that she would have coke bottle lenses and her eyes would be huge in the glasses. I also did not like the small selection of glasses or the cost of them!

The Dr I REALLY LOVE.. and so did my daughter... is Dr Whitty at For Eyes Optical in Algonquin. I really can not say enough good about him!!!!!! The phone number is ###-###-####. I went there for a second opinion since the prescription was so strong and I had my doubts since the previous Dr could not explain anything to me that I could understand. He spent a lot of time with us re-examining her and explaining everything! She definately does need the glasses and the first Dr was correct- it was just the explaining I could not follow from her. Dr Whitty was able to explain it in terms I could follow. He also was very personable and his "bedside manner" was great! He did not use the term coke bottle lenses!!! He made my daughter who is very shy giggle and even scream with delight! THat is quite a accomplishment since she will mostly shut down in front of strangers. He really worked well with her! I was very very very impressed!

The selection of glasses was great also and much more affordable and still stylish! The lady (Shirley) working with me pulled out a bunch of pairs (in my budget) and we tried them all on to get the correct fit and color that I liked. She was super patient with me and went way above what the other place did. They also explained the coatings and different types of lenses so I was able to understand! Needless to say, this is where I got her glasses at! They put a rush on the glasses and I had them in 3 days... everywhere else was telling me it could take up to a month and even longer to get her glasses in since they are so strong and hard to make. One thing I did also llike was that she did not push getting the glasses that turn into sunglasses outside. She actually suggested getting a second pair (it came out to the same price either way) She explained that the lens would be thicker and the vision would not be as clear in Transitions. They will have a pair of regular glasses turned into sunglasses when I am ready to do that.

So, all in all I would have to say For Eyes Optical in Algonquin!

Good luck finding someone you are happy with! Many blessings to you and your family!

They deal with all ages children through adults. Personalized Eye Care for The Whole Family, Large Selection of Frames, Eyeglass Lab On Premises, Contact Lenses In Stock, Pediatric Eye Care & Eye Wear, Kids. They just move to a newly built facility in the strip mall next to Burger King on Rt. 47.
I believe they also have an office in Algonquin.

I have also used Sam's in Crystal Lake but not as high of quality as at Woodstock Eye Care.

We've been very happy with the eye doctor at the McHenry Wal-Mart. I can't remember her name, but she's a redhead and has been there forever. If you call they'll know her name. She's a mom too and has always been great with me and my son, plus you can't beat the prices!
