Does anyone know of a good, fun pediatric dentist? My daughter is 4 and has a pretty serious cavity we're going to have to get filled. I normally just take her to my dentist for checkups and cleanings. I did take her to a Dr. Levitt once before. They were all really nice and I have no complaints, but since this visit is bound to be a little unpleasant, I thought it might be cool to her to a really fun place that has a lot of exciting things for kids. That being said, I'm not willing to pay twice as much for the experience! So if you know of a really fun place that's reasonably priced, I'd love to hear about it. Preferably near Kirkwood/Webster/Crestwood area, but I'd be willing to drive a little farther if necessary. Thanks!
Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions. So many people recommended Sunset Hills Pediatric Dentistry, that I called them first. Unfortunately, they couldn't get me in for almost 6 weeks as a new patient. Someone on here had recommended Dr. Sedighi in Chesterfield, and I found that a friend of mine goes there also, so I called them up, and they got me in two days later! My daughter nearly flipped out when she saw the office (particularly the Superman over the reception desk - her favorite!) We actually saw Dr. Whitley, and she was great. My daughter loved it so much, that she's been asking to go back! Having to deal with the fact that your child has dental problems is never pleasant, but knowing that she looks forward to going and isn't afraid makes it so much easier to deal with! Thanks again!

I'd be interested in finding a good pediatric dentist also. Any any tips on how I can get my almost 2 year old to stop fighting the toothbrush would be greatly appreciated too!
We go to Mark Fernandez with Sunset Pediatrics. My kids have many dental issues and never complaing about going. In fact they love it. I have friends who go to the same practice but other dentists and have had the same experience. It is sooooo kid friendly and welcoming I would recommend it to anyone. Good Luck.
Dr. Lenahan - he's located in the St. Anthony's medical building. He's just great as is his office staff.
My son goes to Ped Dentistry of Sunset Hills and sees Dr. Price-she is AWESOME. The whole place is decked out with only kid stuff-murals on the walls, tv programs on, fish tanks, birds in cages and even the occasional clown that makes balloon animals. I highly recommend it and it's in sunset hills-right across the street from the Home Depot/Marshalls/Old Navy/Borders (hope these landmarks help visualize) the number is ###-###-####. Good luck
Hi Sarah, I have a great dentist that my son goes to. She's not ONLY a pediatric dentist, but my whole family LOVES her! Very kind and gentle. This may not be totally what your looking for, but i thought i would throw it out your way. She's in the Creve Couer area down the road from St. John's Mercy Medical Center. Her name is Dr. Susan Watson ###-###-####. Everyone is so nice when we go there and my son has had two cavities filled with her and never had a problem!! Just thought I would toss it out to you. Good luck with your search!!
Not sure where your dentist is, but I take my kids to Sunset Pediatric Dentists. It's in the office building on Watson between Lindbergh and I-44. It's like an arcade. My 4 y/o didn't want to go, and I thought I would have problems with him, but he loved it. A friend of mine took her 2 y/o there to have a root canal, and they had no problems.
We go to Dr. Kurt Weisenfels ###-###-####) in Webster Groves (Lockwood and Elm off 44). He's not a pediatric specialist, but he and his staff are incredible with children. I just took all three of mine last week, including my 2 year old for the first time and they were WONDERFUL. The kids love going there! My 6 year old daughter has trouble with deep grooves in her molars which makes them prone to staining, etc, and he's watching one, in particular, for decay. But he is a super high tech dentist, so as he said, it'll be no big dal if we have to treat the tooth eventually as he'll just use a laser! No need to numb, no nothing. He'll just "laser it out quick and easy" as he told me. That alone makes me so happy and relieved as dental procedures can be so traumatic with little ones.
Good luck.
We LOVE our dentist! It is a fun place for kids and Dr. Fernandez is sensative to the requests of sometimes crazy moms like me :) My 3.5 year old had fillings and I requested no laughing gas (which is standard proceedure I found out after calling around). Dr. Fernadez worked with me and did not need to use it. He wants kids experiences at the dentists to be FUN and the office shows it! He is at Pediatric Dentistry of Sunset Hills near 270/44 on Watson Rd. There # is ###-###-####. I have 5 kids and they all go here. HTH!
My daughter has had dental problems starting at a very early age. Our pediatrician recommended Dr Sedighi. Their # is ###-###-####. Their office is located near 40 & Clarkson. They are wonderful and only work on children. The office is very kid friendly and has huge Disney murals on the walls. Everyone there is great. I would recommend them to everyone with children.
Hi Sarah, My children go to Pediatric Dentistry of Sunset Hills. They are 12, 14 and 16. They love going there. They do not complain at all. In fact, the last appointment they drove themselves and checked in and I met them there later. It is very kid friendly. They are located in Sunset Hills Plaza, across from Home Depot, IHOP, Ruby Tuesday plaza on Watson and Lindbergh. I went there when I was a kid also and it has changed alot since then, but it was even kid friendly there. Good luck!!! Their number is ###-###-####.
My suggestion would be to stop dentist hopping. If you are going to continue taking her to your general dentist for routine cleanings and exams, then that dentist should be the one to do her filling. It can be very scary going into a new place, even for an adult. Build a good relationship with a dentist you trust that your daughter feels comfortable with. I worked for Dr. Joseph Grimaud in Webster Groves before I decided to stay home with my 3 kiddos. He is excellent with children, however, there are those kids that just won't cooperate. He does not believe in scaring kids into getting anything done. That being said, when kids are afraid, it is almost always because of what the parents have said to their child. Never tell her that she HAS to go to the dentist, rather she GETS to go to the dentist. NEVER, EVER, under any circumstance, use these words: shot, needle, hurt or pain. If you don't understand how to answer the question your little one might have, then tell her that the Doctor will explain everything to her. He will. He will explain that she is going to feel him pinch her cheek, or put sleep jelly next to her tooth, etc. The only time DR. Joe referred a patient to a pediatric dentist was when they were uncooperative. In those rare cases, he referred to the pediatric dental practice in Sunset Hills that everyone else on this page seems to go to. DR. Fernandez IS as good as everyone says. He is extremely compassionate. Know that he does not generally have appointments available next week. Expect to wait 3 or more months at times for routine fillings. He also does a lot of charity work and mission trips so that cuts into his time as well. He is truly amazing with very frightened children, however, as I've witnessed his work first hand at Give Kids a Smile (a program that offers free dental work for kids in need in St. Louis). Good luck to you! Other things to consider, a pediatric dentist is considered a specialist. It requires more schooling, etc. Expect to pay more. Congratulations on taking good care of your daughters and instilling great dental habits!
