I would try vinegar or just get rid of the shoes!
Hello ladies,
I have a serious stinky shoe issue! At some point, my son stepped in cat pee (charming, huh). The liquid soaked into his socks, and then, into the fabric of his shoes when he wore them with those socks. Now, I cannot get that yucky smell out of his shoes! Everytime he takes them off, his feet smell like cat pee. I am really grossed out by it. I have tried baby powder, which did nothing, and trying to air them out. So, my qusetion is, anybody have tips for stinky shoes? The shoes are full on sneakers, made of a dense fabric, thick soled and kind of heavy. He is only 2, so I don't want to put anyting in there that could seep into his skin. But really, got to solve this problem. Anybody have tips for me and my cat-pee-footed child??

Go to PetSmart and get a spray bottle of stuff called Simple Solution. Saturate the insides of the shoes, then let them sit until they dry. There is an enzyme in the Simple Solution that destroys the animal urine. Works wonders and is inexpensive. It's the only thing I know of that will cut the stink of cat urine! And it is safe.
my suggestion is soaking the shoes in ammonia. It doesn't harm fabrics or do anything to colors- then wash after 6 hour or so. I have to do this with extra sinky work clothes etc.
White vinegar or lemon juice will cut the odor. It's usually what the less expensive commercial preparations are made of, anyway. Twenty years ago we had a male cat that got very upset when my husband was gone for 2 days plowing snow, and he sprayed my husband's pile of dirty clothes. (We were on the top floor apartment and the laundry was in the basement, so it tended to pile up.) They didn't have all this commercial stuff then, but the vet told us that vinegar or lemon juice would work - not to just cover up the smell, but to break it down so the cat wouldn't be able to smell it anymore, either. We don't have a cat anymore, but I keep a bottle of lemon juice in the laundry room for especially stinky work clothes.
There is a product that we discovered about 15 years ago when a skunk wandered into the crawl-space under our house. We got it from the Johnson County Extension office - it's called Neutroleum Alpha. It was not cheap, but if it works on skunk smell it's worth it. Don't know that I'd want to put it in his shoe, though.
Oh - you could also put some baking soda in his shoe overnight, too.
Hi Denisse,
If you don't want to get rid of the shoes, at least don't use any chemicals, he is too young! I use a product thatr is amazing and is all natural, the name is Sol-U-Mel, you can only get it through a customer direct company with a small membership fee ($29) kind of like Costco or Sam's that is how it works, but they have the most amazing products that you can imagine, they are soo good that if you give them a try you'll never want to go back to regular stuff and the best is that they are less expensive than buying at wal mart once you get the one time membership.
I have been a customer of this company for about a year and a half and I love everything that they have, they have almost 400 everyday products that are focus in wellness and prevention, from shampoo and toothpaste to everything for clenaing your home and vitamins and suplements to organic cereals and bars, weight management products, and over the counter items too! Almost anything that you can use for your home and family at a better price without the chemicals and the Sol-U-Mel is amazing, it gets rid of smells and mold and it also get rid of spots and stains (any kind! even sharpie!)
Well, let me know if you might be interested, it is worth it!
Best of luck with the shoes!
