My 4 1/2 year old son has special needs; chromosomal abnormality, developmental delay, autistic features. I'm looking for gymnastics class or other class in the community who can handle his special needs. Local library does dance class but not equipped to handle him. OR way to get together with other moms in similar situation.

What can I do next?

I take my 4-year old to USA Gymnastics. They just moved to Gilbert. On Friday's they leave the gym to Jen Weil who is a physical therapist. She runs "pint sized gymnastics" for special needs kids. My son has Down Syndrome, but she has lots of other kids in there, kids who are autistic, delayed physically kids, another one with MD, etc. She is good with the kids, really tries to push them, but in a good way. She groups the kids by age and ability. My son is in an afternoon class with 3 other boys his age. You should definately call them. They are on Gilbert and Ray; I drive over from Tempe because it's a great class. Hope to see you!

My kids go to Oasis at 87th Ave, just south of Bell. I believe they have instructors from Big Fun come in and work with kids with special needs. What type of special needs they deal with, I can't say, but maybe check into it. Oasis can give you their info ###-###-####.

The city of surprise has a special needs class for gymnastics. Its reasonably priced for non residents.

I know the City of Peoria has an extensive Special Olympics program -- you might check there to see if they have any recreation classes there. Good luck! My 10-year-old son has mild cerebral palsy and I know it can be a challenge to find appropriate activities.
