I work at a hospital and per a lot of the nurses they have said they are against the mist with it being a live virus administered. I have heard there is a shot coming out though. Hope that helps a bit.
Has anyone had the H1N1 swine flu mist administered to their child? Who is for or against it? I've had some moms advise against it and others strongly recommending it.

No, I will be waiting for the injection as I do not want her getting the live virus since she's only 2 and I'm pg.
I have also heard a lot of mixed opinions about the vaccine. It seems that many pediatricians are recommending it since the flu is expected to be very widespread. However, so little is known about the vaccine that most moms I know are opting against it. I've even heard a few people say that their pediatricians are not giving it to their own children, so that has swayed parents not to get it for their kids either.
Is your kid in school/daycare or home with you? That seems to influence people's decisions as well. Here is a short discussion some moms had: http://oc.citymommy.com/?q=node/1181

My son is allergic to eggs, so getting it is not an option for him. I don't think we'd be getting it even if we could.

This vaccine has only been out for a month and there has not been enough study done to know what the ramifications are of this injection. Additionally, there is thermosil in this vaccine.
My suggestion would be to do all that you can to keep your son's immune system healthy such as: eating a diet low in sugar and with lots of vegetables, drinking a lot of water, and getting plenty of rest.
mist = live virus
Shot = dead virus
I am getting the shots for my kids.
Hi V S - I've got three boys 6, 8 and 12. Because our family is health conscious, we eat a lot of produce, whole wheat, water which support a healthy immune system, and avoid junk/sugar which depresses the immune system. In addition to following the other hygene advice for avoiding the swine flu, we're at lower risk of getting the flu. We've never had the regular flu shot and we rarely ever get sick. I'm very concerned at the rush to innocculate the world with such a new vaccine. Another thing that gives me great confidence that our immune systems will fight off the virus is a whole food nutritional supplement called Juice Plus (wethriveonjuiceplus.com). My husband and I have taken the capsules every single day for five years. My boys all take the chewables. Because it's the natural combo of nutrients and anti-oxidants from 17 fruits, vegetables and grains, it gives me peace of mind that everyone's getting good nutrition every day to better protect us from colds to more serious illnesses.
My 11 year old son took the mist while my 13 and 9 yr old daughters opted for the shot.My son will agree with me when I say the mist is the best route. The kids were vaccinated for both seasonal and H1N1 at the same time with no ill side affects.
They made their own choices, and my son is going for the mist in the future.
