I absolutely love Redken's All Soft. You can also use a product that contains avocado oil. Not sure if you can get it at WalMart. I know you can get it at some Targets, CVS, and Walgreens. Primarily it is found in salons.
I just switched to Nexxus becuase my hair was drying out by the minute. I was also using a handful of shampoo and conditioner every wash. I got a travel pack at Target for $8 and I haven't touched my old stuff. I love it! It's the perfect amount of moisture and its not heavy or anything. I don't know about the leave-in-stuff, but I'm betting it's just as good, if not better.
**The travel pack has lasted me a week and a half.
Gonna sound crazy.... Apple cider vinegar! It is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I actually did it for the first time a few weeks ago. Wash and condition like normal, then do a vinegar soak. About 1 cup vinegar to about 2-3cups warm water. Put the 'rinse on your hair and leave it in for about 10 minutes. My hair was softer, fuller and super shiny. No worries, you will NOT smell like a salad after it dries!!
I'm a hairstylist and Redken is great, so is Sebations Potion 9, a heavy leave in ,Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi is very conditioning. There are a lot of good deep conditioning treatments,. For now, stay away form items like blow dryers, hot rollers, flat/curling irons. If you use them , be sure to use a heat protectant like Paul Mitchell's Seal and Shine.
You can probably get Redken at Walmart, but it's actually illegal for stores like that to sell it, the 'professional' products like that are usually expired, watered down items.
You can can Redken at many salons, places like Ulta, Sephora... I would go there and ask what they suggest.
Also, change hairstylists, or at least tell her about your hair falling out. If it isn't that, it could be something medical, such as thyroid levels, vitamin deficiency...
you should probably tell her that what she is using is drying out your hair and ask her for a conditioning treatment ... if that is not an option you can get some egg mayo and beer treatments from online ... you can also go the route of avacado oil or olive oil treatments ... personally for hair care I prefere Wen Hair Care ... when I moved from Texas to Illinois my hair dried out to the point of no reccognition of what was on my head...I even bring it with me when I get my hair done, luckily my hair dresser is by best friend but i would do it if I had to "cheat" on her in a pinch (she lives 5hrs away).
I agree with Kristy C. - My Sicilian Granny swore by Olive Oil as the cure for all ills including hair. Warm it up, comb it through, tie a plastic bag around your head, then wash and condition 15 minutes later.
I use Garnier shampoo and conditioner and, before I flat iron, run a smidge of styling oil through my hair that my hair dresser gave me to use. Once a week I let my hair air dry with no blow drying/flat iron, also, to give it a "rest".
Also, ask your stylist to use a different product on your hair when you go in - she must have other options.
Good Luck and God Bless and Happy Hair
Hi, A.:
Tell your hairdresser the problems you are having.
If you want a supplement, try an amino acid blend for your hair.
Good luck.

Another thing as well: It's winter time. Hot water is a killer on skin and hair. Maybe tone down the shower or bath water temp?
I used Olive Oil on my daughters hair when she was swimming several hours a day in chlorinated water. Worked wonders. Just heat it up, comb or finger it in, leave for at least 10 minutes or overnight, but I'm warning you it's greasy, so wrap you head and pillows accordingly, then wash out.
This is obviously not local but you can try Lush.com. They have quick and easy shipping and there is a whole section dedicated to hair care products with tons of reviews. Well worth the money if you ask me.
Good Luck
hi A.,
did you ever think that maybe your hair is becoming dry because of your stylist? if it wasn't dry before you started going then maybe she's doing the damage to your hair. ?? especially if you're getting color, highlights, etc... a WONDERFUL reconstructive (leave-in) treatment is Moroccan Oil. It is expensive but a little goes a very long way. first thing i would do though is mention it to your stylist and see what she comes up with. good luck!
I like the Dove Intensive Repair shampoo & conditioner, you can get a free sample on their website. Occasionally I will use the Garnier Triple Moisture, you leave it on 3 minutes in the shower and it leaves your hair really soft. Also try shampooing every other day & brushing your hair with a natural brush, like boar bristle, not synthetic. This will help stimulate the natural oils in your scalp. Good luck!
