Hair Coloring - La Palma,CA

I use Feria (sp?) I love the conditioner that comes with it and the colors are a little edgy which I like. I also have short brown hair.

L'Oréal is owned by Redken, a professional hair care color line, so it's probably good. I've heard the best about Feria. I'm a hairstylist myself and the only way I would recommend to use at home hair color, it if you are going the same shade or slightly darker, which it sounds like you are.

What I would do, is cover it on the gray roots only, leaving some color in the bowl, process for however long you need to process until about the last 15 minutes. Then, very lightly spritz your hair with water and pull the color through to the ends of your hair to refresh that color. That way, you shouldn't end up with that banding of color or over damaging your previous color.

The vaseline around your hairline is a great idea. Also, look for a formula that says it's made for gray coverage.

I henna my hair about every 4 to 6 weeks. It covers my grey and I get a wonderful chestnut auburn color from it (my hair is dark brown with some grey). I love what it does for me and I don't have any split/breaking hair anymore.

I have light brown hair that I color to dark brown and I prefer Clairol Herbal Essences. It's not very expensive, I find the smell less offensive than some of the other brands, and it comes with a nicely scented moisturizing conditioner. As far as dripping, maybe you could get some inexpensive towels and set them aside as hair towels only so it won't matter if they get stained. I put a bit of lotion or vaseline around my hairline and tops of my ears to prevent staining on the skin. It's not a perfect but it does help some.

I have used Naturtint sold at Whole Foods. It's a vegetable based, ammonia free/resorcinol free hair dye. I was a little skeptical at first before I used it but was very surprised with the coverage for my grey hair. I also have dark brown hair and find that I have to color about every 5 weeks. It costs about $15 and I don't recall any dripping. A great alternative if you are looking for a 'natural' hair color. Good luck! :)

I like L'Oreal Feria. It doesn't drip at all. I wear an old t-shirt when coloring, just in case, but it's never really been necessary. The smell is strong, though. It gives me great coverage and lasts forever. I color every 5 weeks, but should probably do it more often as my hair grows really fast and my roots start showing pretty badly at about 4 weeks. The rest of my hair is still the appropriate color. It's just the roots that needs done.

I use L'Oreal Colour Experte which comes with both the base color and a highlighting kit. Not sure if you're interested in highlights. I was scared of doing the highlights on my own at first but have found out that they are so subtle there's almost no way to really screw it up. Plus I think highlights make hair color look much more natural than just one overall color with no variation. I never experienced any dripping/running but I have long hair. Go for it - just try it!

Hello, I use Nice N Easy 114. My original hair color is brown and this one covers the grey as keeps it close to my color. It foams up pretty good. I put an old shirt on and an old towel on the floor in case I miss and shoot it wrong. :-( Anyway, it doesn't drip. Nice N Easy comes in many colors.

I also have dark brown hair and I like L'oreal Paris. I have tried many brands and this works the best on my gray. I also like that it comes with a comb type bottle tip. This is great for no dripping and complete coverage.

I dye my dark brown hair to cover the gray every 4-5 weeks. I have tried a few different brands but seem to prefer Loreal. My hair just grows out quickly though b/c I have a lot of gray again after about 4 weeks (I think it's the growth).
