My 4 and 9 year old girls had (they recently cut 12 in. And 10in. To donate to locks for love) long beautiful blonde and brown hair. Each night after they were bathed we would braid their hair. Then in the mornings we would unbraid it and brush it tangle free. Plus it gave their hair a wavy look that they just loved. When i do use detangler i use johnson. It seems to work the best. The walmart brand is not very good. So i would not recomend it.

My 5 yr. old daughter has very fine straight hair. I think all hair types tangle and it's hard when it's attached to a young girl. My mother-in-law sent me an amazing brush. Her stylist gave it to her. The only info I have is what's on the handle. It says Continental WNR-21-N. She didn't know really anything about it when I asked. It slides through hair like it's going through butter. It has saved us a lot of grief. Hope this helps.

I have long thick blonde hair too and my husband has curly hair...so our daughter has curly thick blonde hair. I have to do something with it everyday or it gets in her face and she hates that. I was using No More Tears detangler but I found that it dried her hair out. So I switched to using Johnson & Johnson's foam shampoo and conditioner...it works great!! I just make sure I use a wide tooth comb on it so I don't hit the snags.
Good luck, I know it's hard...I haven't cut my daughter's hair yet because the curls are so tight...she just hates it in her eyes!

Of course, you start combing at the very bottom and work your way up gradually but you can also start with a very wide toothed comb, like the ones used to add lift to hair. There are also rinses you can use after washing her hair that really help but I haven't had to use them in years but you can find them. They should help, too.

Hi!
I understand. My daughter has thick, curly, red hair and we have battled many mornings.
Last time her hair was cut they put some leave in conditioner in her hair. It is by RUSK and is called smoother conditioner. It is orange and a little goes a long way. It is a leave in conditioner and so we put it in when her hair is wet and clean. It has helped SO much!
Then, in the morning we can usually comb through it or we use
L'Oreal kids detangler or Johnson and Johnson detangler so her hair does not look like "clown hair" as she says.
Best of luck!

I surely understand the frustration tangles cause which I experienced from my daughter who will be 30 in May and my grandaughter who will be 8 in August. We use Body Pals which is a Discovery Toys product not because I sell them but because we really like the end results. The detangler has a ultra-fine mist with fresh apple scent which leaves hair full with no need for rinsing and it comes in a non-aerosol pump 8.45 oz. bottle. I have used the products for several years but especially now since I had a perm that did not turn out. We also use the no-tears shampoo which also has apple scent and leaves hair soft and full. If you would like to try these items at no charge, please feel free to contact me and I can either deliver them to you or mail to you. Oh by the way, they are 50% off for a short period of time.

oh, poor little thing!! :) I have very thick long hair. I am extremely tender headed. To the point that when I comb my own hair out it hurts and I am 48 years old. When she tells you it hurts, it really does! Johnson hair detaingler worked on my girls when they were little. But, using a large platic pic helps too. Don't use a brush or fine tooth comb when her hair is wet. Always use a big pic or a comb with large teeth. Spray her hair with a detaingler and let it set in for a few min before you comb it out. Start at the "bottom of the hair" and comb little strokes at a time. Don't start and the top or scalp area...that just pushes the tangles all down into a wad. Hurts more. And go slow. It is a job that is time consuming, but believe me, tender heads need the patience.

There is an excellent spray leave-in contioner called "it's a 10". It is for multiple uses (hence the name), but I find that it helps with my daughter's tangles quite well. I purchased it at Costcutters. It can be found in other salons, hair product retailers, or online. It's a little pricey (about $16 per bottle), but I feel like I've gotten my money's worth with this product. This product also helps protect hair from chlorine which is helpful for summertime!
Another idea is to keep a nice wide tooth comb handy in the bath/shower and comb through her hair while you have conditioner on it. I have very thick hair and have been doing that for years - it helps.

Having 2 sisters and all of us with long hair, I have to add my 2 cents.
First definitely get a wide toothed comb. Combing or brushing hair while wet can break and damage hair over time. The best thing to do is to use a detangler like Johnsons, or a leave in conditioner (especially for dry/damaged hair) then comb through with the wide tooth com.
Do this at night after bath, before bed. Take a small section of hair, holding at the root and comb starting with the bottom and slowly working your way up until that section is tangle free, then move on to the next section. Once you get the hang of it it doesn't take that long and is much less painful for the tender headed. (My middle sister is extremely tender headed.)
Next either do a ponytail at the base of her neck then braid her hair, or do a french braid. (You can also do pig tail braids.) Then in the morning you can take the braid out and brush the hair without any tangles or pain. This method has always worked for us and is much less stressful in the morning.
Good luck!

When I had a step-daughter, she had long extrememly curly hair, and we would use it right after bathtime. Then I would comb it taking a section of hair and starting from the bottom slowly working my way up, comb out the tangles. Her hair styed conditioned and looked beautiful later.

I just spray a tiny amount on my hair and my hair is soooo easy to brush. Do not use too much or it will make her hair look oily. It is called Beyond the Zone Pro Formula and it says Turn up the Heat on the bottle. It is amazing even if you do not use heat on your hair. It comes in a see through orange bottle with a dark pink sprayer on it. You will love it. It cost $6.49 at Sallys and it will last you forever.

I don;t remember the exact name of it, but it was a life saver for me. After spraying it on to my hair, wet or dry I would then use ine ofthose simple detangler combs that they sell. The ones with the wavy teeth that are spaced far apart. They are made by Goody's. I did get an ocassional tangle that I had to work at a little, but not very often. I hope this helps!

I suggest you try using Just for Me! 2-in-1 Conditioning Detangler (made by Soft and Beautiful). It comes in an 8 oz., hot pink bottle for about $2.99. You can get it just about anywhere... Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, etc... I use it on my 5 yr. old daughter's hair (very thick and tightly curled), and it works! Be sure to use a big, wide-toothed comb to comb out the tangles. It makes it easier and it hurts less. BTW, we are African American, thus, we have AfAm type hair... but that shouldn't matter. Tangles are tangles! :-D You'll find the product in the African-American Hair Care section of either store. Let me know how it works for your daughter. God bless!

Try some Infusium, Pantene, Halsa, even Head and Shoulders, and try a wide-toothed comb. Comb her hair from the tips, working your way up to the roots. Add some oil (like almond or jojaba) to your favorite shampoo. Cut the split ends and also try a frizz product to keep her hair shaft smooth. Blond hair tends to be dry, so consider a light leave in conditioner. If you've tried taking her to a salon and still have problems, then look for a black beautician - ironically blonds tend to have the same issues of dryness, brittleness, moisture, and tangling as black people.
Do NOT perm her hair. GOOD LUCK!

My daughter and i both have crazy tangles and i just recently found a new solution. I was using Treseme conditioner and that was doing the trick, but i was always worried it would get in her eyes (she's 4). I was at Walmart and they now carry Johnson's "no more tangles" LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER. It is not the spray, that doesn't work well anyways. It is a cream, like a lotion, and it smells good. You only need a little and its a light-weight formula so it doesn't make your hair all gross feeling. It was only $3.00ish, try it.......it works well for me.

My daughter is 8 and her hair is long enough to sit on. Use a brush that has widely spaced bristles - Goody makes really good ones. When brushing her hair always start at the bottom, never at the top - this just pushes the tangles down and into bigger knots. Brush her hair after shampooing and conditioning her hair while it is still towel-damp. Or you can use the large combs others have mentioned while IN the bath BEFORE rinsing the conditioner out, just remember to start at the bottom and work the tangles out a little at a time. I normally braid her hair before bed (just like my mom did mine, and her mom did both of ours) whether the hair is wet or dry. If the braid leaves waves in it the next morning and you don't want them waves or if you don't braid at night, just use one of the spray in detanglers that have been mentioned here. It will remove the waves as you brush. We have used Johnson & Johnsons, Suave, Wal-Mart, H-E-B, L'Oreal, etc. and they all work well on my daughter's baby-fine-but-lots-of-it hair. Also, when she goes out to play, braid her hair. I learned the hard way that trampoline jumping REQUIRES a braid. Any activity that will have her hair whipping around, such as bike riding, jump-roping, playing tag (yep, just about everything) need a braid or you'll be battling tangles. The detanglers work any time of day, so use them whenever you need to.
Hope this helps :)

Do you remember ever having long hair as a child and going swimming? How your hair feels coarse like straw and you can't get the knots out? That was chlorine damage. You will all see a big difference in your hair/skin if you get a chlorine filter for your showers. You can get them at a health store for about $40. Once a yr you change a filter for $19/ea. I can't believe the difference in my hair and even my sons...and they get haircuts every 4 wks! They are still young and take baths. So I just run their bath wather from the shower head. Their skin looks like they have lotion on now instead of being dry and itchy. I read that a 10 min shower is the equivalent of drinking 10 glasses of straight tap water! The filters are super simple to screw on. I've always had long hair and I NEVER have tangles. I think layers in my hair help too.

Even though I have REALLY thick hair this brush eats right through knots and tangles with practically no pulling at all. You can't expect that it will do it in one stroke but, if you seperate the hair in sections and do each section, this brush should end you hair troubles!! Even my 14 month old will let me brush her crazy tangles with this brush. It should be less than $10.

Dear S.,
I have fine, fly away hair that tangles something fierce after shampooing. I have found the perfect solution and want to pass it on to you.
Get Paul Mitchell's "The Conditioner". It is blue in color and you do not rinse it out. Just follow the directions. The second part of the solution is to use an "Afro comb". You know the ones like the African-Americans used back in the 70's for their hair when they kept it natural and full. The large teeth spaced far from each other is the perfect tool to straighten all the tangles up. And always start from the ends of the hair, never at the scalp!
Hope this helps.

If I come across an area that her hair is really tangled, I'll use a little more spray right in that area. Hi, maybe this will help. I have the same problem with my own hair. I have thick but fine hair & it gets SO tangled! Now, what I do is shampoo daily but I use herbal essence citris lift shampoo & matching conditioner. The conditioner is REALLY great, it's the best I've ever used & it somehow (don't know if it has detangler in it) works to detangle my hair. You don't use as much as you think you'd need but it's trial & error on the amount to use. It's the kind where you have to rinse out in the shower but it WORKS! Just be sure to really work it in as well as underneath too. Sometimes that area gets overlooked & maybe leave it while she finishes the bath/shower then rinse it out. You don't HAVE to leave it in but I usually do for good measure, just to give it extra time to 'work' you may want to try it that way since she has long hair. Perhaps it'll work for you too. You can probably use other shampoo that you prefer along with THIS conditioner but I just like the herbal essence & how it works well on my hair but I'd definitly suggest at least using the conditioner.

Which makes me think since were not wearing our hair big anymore I should go back to the Johnsons JOhnsons no more tangles. SERIOUS YOU SHOULD TRY IT BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.
PS Theres alot less screaming, and alot less breakage if you comb the ends and work your way up, with the Johnsons detangler though it wont be much work at all, and you'll wonder what you did without it.

That was till my mom hit rough times and she found something better and way cheaper. She would get a spray bottle and put just regulare conditioner inside the bottle and add water. The trick is to put just enough maybe an inch or so and fill it to the top with water and shake. When you spray it on just rub it in and let it set for a couple of seconds and then brush. No more painful mornings with tugging @ my hair. It is also a plus because sit is leaving that conditoner in your hair for the rest of the day making it healthy, shiny and smelling good all day. Now that I have my 1 year old daughter with hair more curly them mine I use the same. Good luck on that.

Have you tried Johnson's No More Tangles spray? It was what my mother used on me when I was a youngster and it is what I used on my daughter, who is now 13. You spray it on, let it set a minute, and then comb the hair out. I don't really know how it does it, but it makes it a lot easier to comb through. I also suggest a wide toothed comb to start, then go into a smaller toothed one to finish the hair.
Hope it works for you. It did for me.

My sis & I had the same problem- long, thick, fine blond hair, not to mention my sis is very tender-headed. The Johnson & Johnson spray detangler really works well.

Biolage Detangling Solution!! It's the best thing ever invented. My 6 year old daughter has waist length curly hair and I tried the detanglers from suave, loreal-but they didnt' do the job. Then we got the Biolage Detangling solution. It's great! My daughter calls it "soft hair" because it doesn't hurt anymore when we do her hair. Now some consider it pricey, but its well worth it. It's like $26 for a
33.8oz bottle. I also watch the sales at JCPenney's and stock up when I can. I've recommended it to other people and they love it!!! Good Luck!!

My sister would comb her daughters curly hair when it was still wet and had conditioner in it, with a wide tooth comb. It was much easier to detangle then, especially since my niece has a tender head.

Use conditioner in her hair when you wash it. The detanglers left my daughter's hair looking greasy so I do not use these. After my daughter washes her hair, she must brush her hair out and in the morning, there are hardly any tangles. If her hair is really thick, you may need to wash her hair/bathe in the morning. I am sure this is not what you want to hear, if your mornings are like mine! :-)

Try Pink Lotion . You can find it at Sally's. It comes in a pink bottle. It has always worked great for my daughter's hair.

A beauty supply store should carry a hair brush for hair with extensions (brissles are flexible and designed to bend instead of pull on knots). Helps lessen the pulling effect on the scalp. I got my daughter's for $10, which seems a bit pricey but has helped our morning and bedtime brushings.
