Hi moms! So my hair is STILL falling out after I had my baby (10 months ago, ugh) I'm getting it cut today, it's super thin. I was planning on having it layered to give it more volume. So my question is should I color it too? Would that give it more volume/texture or do you think the chemicals would just be harder on it. I know there's not much I can do about the massive shedding :( Just trying to work w/ what I've got! Thanks in advance for your help. :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have spoken to my doc about this, she said it's normal for up to 12 months afterward, especially while still nursing.

A trim might help how it looks.
I'd stay away from coloring it.
:
What helps me when I want my hair growth to speed up a bit is
One Biotin supplement daily.
One tablespoon of black strap molasses daily.
One teaspoon of FOOD GRADE diatomacious earth (mix with juice or water and drink it down) daily.

My hair growth will increase from 1/2 inch per month to 1 inch per month.
Not only that but my finger/toe nails will grow like crazy, too.
The down side? - hair grows rapidly everywhere - underarms and legs, too.

I shed a lot in the first year after giving birth with both of my pregnancies. By a year my hair was back to normal. I had a shoulder length layered cut and I did highlight it every few months, I felt the highlights gave it a fuller appearance. I'm not a hairdresser but I think highlighting is probably the least damaging as far as ways to color your hair. I didn't notice that it did any damage to my hair at all, just made me feel better.

I colored my hair for years because doing so did give me more volume/texture. If done right it will not damage your hair.

My daughter is still losing hair 6 months after giving birth and she colors her hair. It looks good and her hair is healthy.

Did they say it could be because you are low in iron? Most the time there is a reason for your hair to be falling out. I was loosing my in clumps and thought it was due to meds I was on turned out I was VERY low in Iron. I would get that checked. As to getting it colored I would just hightlight. I find that can help hide what I don't like about my hair. Cause it draws your eyes to something else other than the thinning.

Good Luck and God Bless!

No color, but a good cut might be just what the doctor ordered to perk up your appearance. (I am dealing with the same thing. Ugh.)

I've heard, not sure the validity of it, if you take/continue to take prenatal vitamins your hair won’t fall out. You could try it and see if it helps new growth and helps you keep what you’ve got.

I always feel like my fine hair has way more body after I color it. I would go for it.

have you talked to your dr. about your hair falling out? It's not normal for it to still be coming out like that 10 months later. I asked my dr about it at 6 months after my son was born and that's when I found out that I am hypothyroid. I would have it checked out just to make sure.
For your hair, I don't think that coloring it would have anything to do with giving it more volume or texture. I have been coloring my hair since I was 13 years old (I'm 31 on Friday). Getting a regular trim though is good for your hair and always feels good anyway.

I have always found that when my hair is falling out I am not eating right. When my diet gets back on track my hair stops falling out. Just a thought...
