Hi D.,
I would give the shampoo person an additional couple of dollars ($1-3?). I don't think the stylist shares the tip with the shampooer.

I go to a hair salon in the city that has a separate person who only washes your hair. After she is done, I have my hair cut by the stylist. I pay $50 for the cut, plus I tip the stylist $10. My qustion is; do I have to give the person that washes my hair a separate tip or does the stylist give them a portion of the tip that I give them? If I am required to tip the hair washer, how much should you tip them?
Most of the people who said to tip were people who received much more than just a hair wash. Their hair washer spent a lot of time & even gave them a scalp message. I would of couse tip someone who gave me that kind of service. My hair washer, on the other hand, does not do anything like that. In fact she uses luke warm to cool water, spends maybe 2 minutes washing & conditioning it & often pulls my hair. It's an unpleasant experience to say the least. So, I still question whether I should tip this person when I'm getting lousy service. Just to clarify, she is not giving me crappy service just because I haven't tipped her in the past. This was the level of service I received from her from the beginning, which is why I never tipped her.

Absolutely tip the one who washes your hair.... I pay $80.00 for a cut and color and I tip the girl who washes my hair $5.00...She does a double wash and a scalp massage. I love that part of my appointment... The reference to tipping the busboys...the waitresses may share tips with them if they choose, which any smart waitress would, but it is not mandatory....
Tip the girl..........
You should tip the hair washer. About $3 - $5.
I always give a tip to the person who washes my hair. At my salon, not only do they do a fantastic job washing and conditioning my hair they also give a lengthy (and very relaxing) scalp massage. I usually give $5 or more because it's the best part of the appointment for me!
i always tip the person who washes my hair-only 2.00. i watch the other people when i'm there, and most all tip the hair washer.
I don't tip separately. The stylists/colorists give the folks who do the hair washing a portion of their tips. Think of it this way...when you go to a restaurant, do you tip the person who clears the table? ;)
Besides, fancy salon prices are ridiculous enough these days. My husband turned white when I told him it usually costs $250 to get my hair cut and foiled.
