Hair Static

My 5 yr old daughter has fine hair that flies straight up in the hair during the winter when the heat is on. I've tried wiping her hair with a dryer sheet, but's its very temporary! In an hour, she'll come get on the couch and her hair goes crazy again. And forget wearing a winter hat to keep her ears warm! When I pull it off, she looks like an animated cartoon that just just put their finger in an electrical socket. Sooo, what can I use? During her bath what product can I add to her hair to prevent this?

Static Guard works wonders!!! Spray a little from a distance near her clothes, You can also spray a bit on the hair brush...That's what I do for my hair because I have fine hair as well. Also antifriz shampoo and conditioner.

Static guard is the way to go....I actually spray it right in my hair as I have very fine hair. Nothing else works for me. Surprisingly it lasts all day, however I do not wear a hat to and from work.

Are you using a conditioner when you wash her hair? They usually help with static. You could also try John Frieda anti frizz finisher/smoother. It comes in a tube. Rub a tiny dab into your hands and then use your hands to smooth her hair.

I used to have the same problem. I would spray my hairbrush with Static Guard (usually in the laundry section). I would also spray the inside of my hats before I put them on. A leave -in hair conditioner helps a little as well.

Oh I am laughing - my hair did that this morning. I used the flat iron on it and it just spread out in the air straight from head.

So, I ran a palm full of Fructis Garnier smoother through it. It has been three hours, I have run a couple of errands, locked myself out the house, climbed the fence and "broken in" and it is still static free.

Maybe I am weird, but I am afraid to try laundry products on my hair....not that hair products are any more "natural".

Shine spray works really well, it has silicone in it that makes hair smooth and soft. Also, No More Tangles can be sprayed on anytime to help.

I know that many of your posts say Static Gaurd. I use it and I do not have fine hair. I spray it on my brush before I brush my hair. Also if your couch is fabric you can spray it. You do not need to soke it but just one spray all over it will help. As well as spraying the inside of her hat before putting it on. I love Static Gaurd. If she wears a lot of sweats like I do that can also cause the static so I spray those as well before or after I put them on.

Whoa...I don't know what's in Static Gaurd but I wouldn't be putting in on my head let alone my childs. :(
I use John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon as a finishing product.
I also use Giovanni Smooth as Silk shampoo and conditioner which helps. It is also paraben and sulfate free.
And if you can afford it (my mom gave me some :)), Wen hair cleaning cream is a great product (you can actually leave a bit of it in your hair). (Also paraben and sulfate free.)
HTH!

Keeping her hair braided can help. Leave-in spray conditioner can also help. If you have a humidity setting on your furnace, turn it up some (humidity will help). Lastly, stay away from static-y fabrics, like fleece or wool.

These things help, but as far as I know, nothing gets rid of it completely.

make sure you're using dryer sheets on her clothes (if you're not already). Also, is your house really dry in the winter? I used to get bloody noses from the dry air in my house. And, i always had a static problem with my hair too. we just put a humidifier on our furnace this year & it seems to be helping me with this problem. Good luck!

Hi,

I use Garnier Smoothing milk and anti-humidity spray. It works really well and also makes the hair smooth and silky.

put in a daily conditioner whenever you bathe her. this won't be too heavy for her hair but will help. then you can spray in a light leave-in conditioner. this one you can spray on every day in the morning. and if you wanted to use a very little bit of smoothing serum. the reason that hair gets stactic-y in the winter is because there is a lack of moisture. hope this helps
