Simple and elegant. Make large curls and sweep her hair to one side and tie it with a clip or hair accessory that matches her dress. Let it hang over her shoulder. I think this hair style is gorgeous and very age appropriate.
Good Luck
Hello mamas,
My 14 year old daughter has a group formal dinner tonight with her class mates. She has long beautiful hair and wonders how she should style. I always wear short hair and don't know how to style long hair. Do you have any suggestion what to do or websites to look? I intend to go to Target, they carry a few hair accessories there.
Thanks!

This lady has lots of amazing styles and step by steps. Surely she can find something here!
You could try theknot.com, it's a wedding website but they've got thousands of hair ideas. It her hair straight or curly? I love the simple elegance of a long-haired loose curly or wavey ponytail with some kind of sparkly barrette or hairpiece. It's super easy, doesn't require hairspray or anything, and the barrette adds just enough sparkle to make it formal.
If her hair is straight, pull it straight back into a sleek ponytail, and add an elastic embellishment.
Ponytails are hot on the red carpet right now ;)
Hope she has fun!!
I love the low side ponytail with the curls hanging over the shoulder :)
Pick up the latest People magazine while you are at Target and use the Oscar styles as a jumping off point. Often just using a large barrel curling iron and creating soft waves is beautiful. Do a deep side part with a low ponytale and wrap a portion of the ponytale around the elastic and pin it underneath is a classic look.
For my daughter's junior-high graduation, I took her to our hair-dresser who did a French-braid, but she had the ends sticking out of the braid. It was a funky twist on an elegant hair style, and was perfect at that age.
If you are like me and can't do hair, the pony tail is back. I would do a low pony and take a piece of hair and wrap it around the ponytail holder to hide it and bobby pin it under. If she has bangs, sweep them to the side. I would do a soft pony. Rachael Ray had a segment yesterday, maybe you can check her website for how to do different styles. They also showed how to do Natalie Portman's hair from the Oscars. It all sounds easy, until you try it.
I would use a 1 1/2 in curling iron and make spiral curls, then put the very front bang part up to form a bump with bobby pins. I love that style! Here's a pic! http://idohairstyles.com/?attachment_id=6
