Halloween Costume

Okay - so I am going to be a "bun in the oven" for a Halloween party this Saturday. The problem I am having is that I need something to use for the oven knobs. I checked a local appliance parts store but they want $5.00 a piece. And to be honest..with a little one on the way, I don't want to put out that kind of money for something I'm only going to use for a couple of hours. Anyone have any ideas on something inexpensive I can use? All ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank to everyone for the great ideas. I didn't really know I would get such great responses. (I'm new to this website - but I love it!). I've decided to use the knobs off my own oven. I can't believe I didn't think of it myself. I check it out last night and they come off very easily. Thank you again! I'm sure I'll be posting more in the future!

M.,

Maybe you have some knobs on cabinet doors that you could use.
Then you can just put them back when you are done...T.

How about you take the knobs off your own stove, you can just put them back on when you get home from the party, you would just have to find a non-permanent way to attach them, velcro maybe?

you can use one of those magic sponges to clean them, they work great for all the nooks and crannies.

You can buy stick-on velcro rounds or squares, and that should hold the oven knobs on for the party. Just pop yours off, clean 'em, and there you go. Or hot glue would work as well, and it would scrape off easily after you're done partying. Have fun!

It looks like you have heard to use your own oven knobs. That is the same thing I was thinking. Just be careful not to lose them. Or you could always just get some construction paper and make some that way. Best of luck. Sounds cute...

At my recycle center there are always a couple old ovens there, why not look at a recyling center? I'm assuming that you are making the "oven" from a box, you could just make some out of cardboard. I could give you some hints on how to make them from cardboard if you want. Good luck!

Maybe you can unscrew the nobs off your own oven for the evening, and the return them when you get home?

I love your idea for a Halloween costume! Very cute!
Many people have suggested using the knobs from your own oven, but I would worry about them getting lost. A few years ago I was making myself a costume that needed to include a microwave oven (long story). So I called a few appliance repair shops to see if they had any spare parts. I found one guy who gave me exactly what I needed, and didn't even charge me!

The knobs on my stove pull off for easy cleaning... check to see if yours do too! You could just use them.

Hi M.! Your costume idea sounds very cool:) Have you thought about door knob covers? This way when you're done with them you can use them in your house for baby proofing. I don't think they are out of price range. Let me know how it turns out.

Buy the nobs the day before, use them for your party, keep the reciept and take them back the next day. :-)

Two great places for such things. #1 A used appliance store. They sometimes keep the old knobs to see if they will work on another appliance. #2 your local recycling yard. They always have loads of old stoves and junk waiting to be turned into tomorrows pop can. lol If you don't have a recycling center which handles large items the junk yard is also very good. I know that sounds yuck but you would be amazed what people find. Also the workers may know of a stove on site and may go get the knobs for you. My Grandparents actually do junking for a living, and they made a very good living before my Grandpa's hip surgery. Enough to pay for a nice trip to Germany. So many people simply toss what can easily be sold for recycling which is how they made thier money. Good luck and great idea for a costume. Congrats on being a first time Mommy too!

try your local craigslist. There are free ovens on there all the time. i bet someone would be willing to give knobs to you for free if you're willing to drive to them. Congrats on your bun!
