My DH & I asked our son what he wanted to dress up as for halloween and he said a tree. Not a Christmas tree, but a Fall tree. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get a pattern or an actual costume for a Fall tree? Our son is 3 1/2 and he doesn't want to be anything else but a tree. Told a it was a tough one. :-)

What can I do next?

Not tough - so easy! Have him go out into the yard and get a lot of leaves - just not "crispy" ones. Buy a cheap long sleeve shirt and krazy glue his leaves all over the shirt and have him wear a pair of brown pants for the trunk of the tree! Happy halloween!

Love Jane's idea! Just wanted to add that you could also use fake leaves from a craft store, too.

Brown turtle neck and brown pants ( sweat shirt and sweat pants would work if you could find them) even brown cordoroys...go to the dollar store and they usually have sprays of fall leaves you can hot glue on his arms, and chest, you could even get a baseball cap super cheap and glue leaves to it...

I agree--you can get creative here. I make my kids' costumes and they have gone as He-Man and Orko, knights, and this year we're recycling He-Man and my 3 1/2 year old has asked to be a dragon (which I still have to make, but I'm pretty sure I'll be starting it with a green sweat suit).

You can build great costumes off of sweats and cheap tops with a glue gun or crazy glue, or even a few well-placed stitches with sturdy thread. If he wants branches, his arms will work and you can stuff old stockings with wadded brown paper (like paper grocery bags) and make twisted brances and attach the leaves to those. Just attach the stockings to his shoulders and upper body. You can use an old winter cap to cover with leaves for the top of the fall tree (either real leaves, paper leaves, or cut out felt leaves). Sounds like an imaginative little boy!

I always use sweats. I don't sew.
Get brown for the bottom and paint them with black to look like tree trunks. Then get a red or green or orange for the top and paint branches on it
Get some fall leaves from Micheal's and hot glue or staple them on the top.
Get a brown hat and make it into a bird's nest.
I love the tree idea.

Or do white sweats and paint like birch bark with black
Do a white top with branches and get yellow leaves or felt felt leaves shaped like birch leaves.

I have no idea as I am not at all creative, but I love that he wants to be a tree! I miss that age. Cherish it. Once they are older it is all about star wars and death maul....sigh.....

Ha, Our daughter went as a tree to a Halloween Party in 9th grade. She looked great.. She had a hat she also hot glued leaves to.. She actually also built branches out of huge pieces of foam that started at her waist and belted on.. Too involved for a little guy..

I think a hooded sweat shirt in brown or green with leaves glued to it would be perfect.. Since you want him to show up in the dark.. maybe get a set of battery operated lights to wrap on him.. so he can be seen walking in the dark.. Maybe even have a nest with a bird on his shoulder..

So cute! One of my cousins kids wants to be a pile of leaves! I think her idea would work for you too. Get brown pants and a green sweatshirt (hooded if possible). Go to your local craft store place and get lots of fake leaves. Now, on how to attach, there are a few options. You could sew each one on with a couple of stiches at the stem - which would take time, but I think would look and last the best. You could safety pin them or possibly glue them?? Also, if you can't find a green hoodie, then use a green sweatshirt/shirt and a stocking cap or hat!!! You could also get creative and place a stuffed squirel or bird on him too.
