Hand Foot and Mouth Relief for Daughter

My sweet 1 yr old daughter has hand foot and mouth. I am able to control the fever and get some fluids in her, but not nearly as much as I know she should get. She hasn't eaten food in going on 4 days now, which the pedi said is fine as long as she keeps taking fluids. I have tried pedialyte ice pops, regular pedialyte, water, and extremely diluted juice so the fruit acidity won't burn her throat. I even got her some Pacuigo gelato to try and help numb up her throat. She will drink some milk right now fortunately so at least she's getting some nutrition. Does anyone have any other thoughts or ideas on how I can make her more comfortable? She is just in so much pain and it breaks my and my husband's hearts. :( Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

If its been four days, it will probably clear up soon. We did a lot of soda, which the kids don't normally get, to get them to take their fluids. Their favorite was orange crush. But she should be getting better soon.

Your poor baby. I just looked up what this is. Have you tried one of the sore throat sprays like chloraseptic. They taste nasty, but they numb up the mouth pretty good. Also, what about orajel?
Wishing your daughter well, soon.

Go to www.askdrsears.com and get the dosage for your child for benadryl (the bottle will probably say not to give it to her but his site usually has amounts for you) and mix that with an equal amount of mylanta. After a few minutes of her swallowing that, she should be able to eat. It worked for my girls and my daughter was one when she got it.

I would call your doctor for a numbing remedy (the nurses are actually better at these). I forget what was recommended to me for that, but I found out about it too late. I wouldn't try adult remedies unless the doctor suggests it. For my son, it was lots of cuddles, lots of milk, and more cuddles. It was a really bad couple of days, but if she is 4 days into it, it should get better soon. You may try applesauce to start with as she goes back to food (if she is eating solids), and yogurt too. Hang in there!
