It seems this year my hands have been extra dry and my normal cocoa butter body lotion isn't taking care of it. It may be due to all the extra hand washings with diaper changing. I've tried a few different types of lotions on my hands but they're still dry! I don't want to break the bank on hand lotion, especially during the Xmas season. Any suggestions?
Well its been a while since I wrote this! Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I went to a Body Shop home party a cpl weeks ago and bought the Almond hand treatment. I am going to try it for a while, and if it doesn't work I am going to go through the rest of the suggestions and try them out until I find one that works best for me. Thanks again!!

Avon makes a very inexpensive lotion in a small tub called intesive therapy. It's about 3.00 and will last you a good while. they also make smaller hand lotion size tubes of it for travel. this works for me and i have very dry, skaley (ash like) skin all winter mostly from lots of sun in the summer.
take care.

Have you tried Eucerin? It comes as a lotion and a thick cream. I use the thick cream for my kids' excema and my dry skin (same issue with handwashing often,my hands are horribly dry and cracking, ouch!). Anyhow, my recommendation is the thick cream Eucerin makes, don't expect to handle anything for about 10 minutes after application, it'll take sometime to soak in but well worth it! Good luck!

Nope, don't use it. Our skin is dry in the winter due to lack of moisture inside the body.
Drink lots of water, and take your oil internally. Yeah, sounds crazy, but our skin gets dry from the inside. So things like Flaxseed Oil or Coconut Oil will help you. Also these have other benefit for your health.
You can also use the flaxseed oil for the outside of the skin. Flaxseed comes in a pill.
Call me crazy !!!

I am a manicurist! Im sure I have know something that can help. Pure vitamin e oil is great, apply especially at bed when you and just sit. Also, walmart carries a huge jar of generic eucerin cream (not lotion, cream) this is great and will do the trick smear it all over your hands whenver you need it , but, before you go to sleep (have your hubby help you) apply the cream, then vaseline over it which will make a sort of seal and apply a pair of white cotton socks! For extra extra moisture, apply the vitamin E oil before the cream and you can also wrap your hands in plastic for 20 mins. The moisturizer has no other choice but to absorb into your skin. Do this, and you should see a difference really quick. Also, if after you have healed you have alot of dry flaky skin, exfoliate your hands with fine sea salt or even sugar, your hand will be as soft as your baby's bum! This is also great on dry cracked feet! good luck!

Hi R.!
I do at-home pampering parties with The Body Shop At Home. We do have stores in some malls so you may have heard of The Body Shop but now they have extended into home parties. We have some awesome almond oil hand cream, intensive almond oil hand cream, hemp hand protector, and alot of people's favorite: the original body butter! My hostesses right now are averaging $200-$400 in free products because their friends and family are shopping for the holidays. You could get what you needed for yourself and get gifts for free and discounted. If you get a moment, check out my website at:
www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/jcolecchi If would like to get together to sample some products, or if you would like me to send you a few samples, let me know. I would be happy to do so. I used to have the same dry skin problems, but from head to toe, before I found these wonderful moisturizers!

Hi R.,
Arbonne International has a great hand lotion. You want a product that will last more then 5 minutes. I believe I have that in our Intelligence line. Send me a message through my website and I will be happy to mail you one (free). I have a few smaller tubes at home, and I understand, I am a teacher and am always washing my hands. Another product that works wonderfully is the Intelligence Skin Conditioning Oil. Just a few drops and it replenishes your skin. I keep one in my car and in my purse. I use it twice a day, sometimes once a day, and my hands feel great. Leave me a message and I will get one out to you ASAP. www.freshflowerglo.myarbonne.com

I have psoriasis as well as very dry cracked hands, I am a obsessive handwasher, and at their worst my hands feel as if I have tons of paper cuts or razor bldes suts on them. I have been using Corn Huskers Lotion. You can find it in any pharmacy. It's over-the-counter and costs only a few dollars. Also, I do the Vaseline as others have mentioned, but I pour table salt on my hands over the Vaseline and rub together then rinse with warm water. The salt works as an exfoliator and gets rid of the dead skin while helping the Vaseline to penetrate your skin.

there is this really inexpensive stuff called aquaphilic lotion, it's used to mix with exzema meds. But, it's over the counter and works great and like I said it's cheap, like 5 bucks a tub. Or, if you look for mousturzer, not lotion or moisturizing lotion, it makes a differance. Hope this helps!

Hi,
My 10 y.o. daughter and I both suffer from extremely dry skin and we found that Dead Sea Hand cream works the best for us. A friend of mine from Israel used to swear by it and gave me a small bottle to try. I found mine online last year and bought a whole case for us to use. I bought the name brand "Premier" and paid about $7 per bottle but it is worth it. It is the only type of cream that my daughter will use. Good Luck!
PS I find using a humidifier helps too

Hello,
I have been using Eucerin for Sensative skin on my kids and myself since my son was born. The pediatrician suggested it b/c both my kids were born in the winter and we didn't want them to get too dry from washing and the weather. I have always had luck with it and when my skin gets real bad I use Aquaphor (also from Eucerin) before I go to bed and my hands are a lot better in the am. My daughters Derm. also suggested Aquaphor for chapped lips at night. Good luck.

The cheapest and most effective way to combat the dry skin (without having a million people try to sell you on home parties and products their friends made) is to get Johnson and Johnson's baby lotion with oil.
I find that Cocoa Butter works best; I usually use Palmer's but if that is what you are using, try the concentrated Palmer's Cocoa Butter, or they also have a lotion out with Olive Oil in it. Anything oil based would work well, and you don't have to spend a lot of money to do it. Also, if you have a Family Dollar store in your area, you can get a regular sized bottle of Palmer's for $4.00. I believe they also carry Johnson and Johnson's too, for less than you'd pay in a drugstore.
Hope this helped. :)

Hello out there - I just joined mamasource and saw this posting. I went to the dermatologist yesterday for skin irritation where my ring was..he said that the best thing for your skin is vaseline - you can even wear those gloves with it at bedtime. He also said that the excessive hand washing can really irritate the skin - when this happens, use Cetaphil. I hope this helps!!!

Being inside during winter, where the air is really dry, and washing hands constantly is tough on hands, no question. I find that putting hand lotion on right before I go to bed really helps. That way it really sinks in over night and you wake up with softer hands. Some folks even put on soft gloves at night, after they put on lotion, to really let the lotion work.

R. M:
You have to try Hydrolatum!! It is non-prescription cream that is kept behind the counter of the pharmacy dept. It is petrolatum (vaseline) based thus it is greasy when you first put it on but eventually it gets absorbed and will no longer be greasy. It was originally recommended by the pediatrician to help prevent dry skin since my son has eczema. It then became something for the whole family. I apply it all over my children (ages 5 and 3) after baths and even on face in the morning. I personally use it all over also especially on hands and feet before bedtime. I am a dentist and am constantly washing my hands. I bouht a tub for the office and everyone loves it. My mother lives in CA and she cannot find it there, so she always stocks up when she visits us here. It is not expensive. Maybe about $10 at CVS,even Costco sells it for $7.95 for a 16 oz jar that should last you a year. This works wonders for dry skin and nails too.
Good luck.

I don't have the diaper changes, but with so many cold germs around, I too wash my hands more frequently in the winter. And I have a wood stove, so loading the wood into the fire drys me out.
good luck. oh and remember to wear gloves...nothing worse than dried chapped hands...I learned that the hard way!

Hi R.,
I have heard that Bag Balm works great, it's something farmers put on cows' udders, but found it also soothed their rough chapped hands. Always read the ingredients on the hand lotions some contain alcohol and that's counter-productive. Hemp oil, salve or cream always helped my husband's eczema...good luck!

i get really really dry skin too in the winter...i used to be an aquatics director and the chlorine would ruin me! it was awful...the only thing that worked for me was Aveeno. It's the skin relief moisturizing lotion (bottle says "relieves itchy, extra dry skin"). i like the kind with cooling menthol but they also make a version that is fragrance-free. it works wonders for me...maybe it will help!
if nothing else helps, get some cotton gloves and Aquaphor and slather the Aquaphor on before bed and then put the gloves on and sleep with them on. You'll have brand new hands in the morning! It's also a miracle diaper rash salve! :)
