I did twice with my first baby. The first time she wasn't too rough, the second time a different midwife did it and I delivered the next day.
Good luck and blessings!
i am 38 weeks pregnant, and part of my plug came out this past friday. Today, my midwife stipped my membrances. She says that there is no guareentees. This is my first time. What was your experience? Thanks

I had it done with my second and third babies, and it worked. The OB had to do it twice with my 3rd baby. The first time she didn't really do it that "roughly" so at my next appt and asked her to really get in there and do it. She did. It was painful, but it paid off. I went into labor that night.
I had mine stripped and it didn't speed things up for me.
I had mine stripped twice. First time I was at a 3 and 39 weeks, no dice. Second time I was at a 4 and 41 weeks, went into labor one hour later
I delivered the next day!
My dr offered but I decided to let my son come on his own time. They will only come out naturally on their time and not a second before.
They say it will only put you in labor if your body is ready to go into labor. I had mine stripped with my daughter and delivered her within 24 hours of havng them stripped. I was already 3 cm dialated. I have friends that had their membranes stripped 2 or 3 times and it did not work at all. It just depends on your body and how ready you are for delivery. Best of luck!
Yes, went 40 weeks , 6 days. Had them stripped at 40 and 4 days. I went into labor exactly 48 hours later. Was what I needed, I guess.
It wasn't painful for me, and I had the child 10 hours later. I was grateful but was at 5 walking around at work and coaching basketball. So, maybe some different circumstances there. Good luck!
I did it with both, but reality is, if baby isn't ready it isn't like the kid will shoot out of you the next day.
With baby #1 my doc did it and I had her a few days later. With #2 my doc did it 3 times- or just at each check up. Can't say that worked. But my hubby and I did have sex after that last time and I was in labor less than 4 hours after.
So I would say just wait it out, but if you and hubby can have some alone time, try that as well :)
My OB stripped mine without asking at 36 or 37 weeks. I went on to carry 2 more weeks before delivering after going into spontaneous labor. I lost my plug the afternoon after she stripped my membranes and had some discomfort but that was all. Baby will let you know when it's time, rushing things along doesn't always work,
Congratulations on your upcoming birth.
I had mine stripped with my second child and I went into labor a few hours later, but I was already dilated 4 cm at 38 weeks. But....it is not a guarantee...if your body is ready to go into labor, stripping can send you into labor, but if not, it won't do anything. Good luck!
It didn't do a thing for me. In fact, they stripped them twice, and nothing either time. Hope it goes better for you! :)
I had it done once a few days before being induced. It was horribly painful. It didn't do anything except make me slightly crampy and spot a little.
I have had mine done twice and I have gone into labor within the next day. Good luck!
I had mine stripped on my 2nd child and had him 2 days later. But I have people I knew and they had to keep having them striped. Hopefully your body is ready. Good luck and congratulations on your new addition.
In my case, having a cervical sweep in my 40th week (not sure if that's the same as stripping the membranes) didn't help. I actually bled so much after the sweep that they had to rush me to triage, they thought I'd need an emerg c/s. So congrats that you didn't need that! :) Everything turned out fine, the bleeding stopped but then 5 days later (due to low amnio fluid) I had to be induced. I know you're ready, but 38 wks still gives you some time. You'll meet your little one soon! Good luck! :)
I had mine stripped at both my 37 and 38-week appointments. Nothing happened. In fact, after the 38-week check-up, they sent me to L&D for BP monitoring (I was battling pre-e), and when it didn't go down, they kept me overnight and induced me the next morning. So technically I had my son within 24 hours of the second time they stripped the membranes, but without the induction I'm not sure that would have happened. Guess I'll never know.
Even if part of your plug came out, 38 weeks may still be too early. Don't worry and don't force it. Sometimes if you force it, it creates a long labor. I know cause I just doula'd one. I'd try it again if you go clear past 40 weeks and are getting far along in dialation. If it's going to work, it will, if not, it won't. :) You usually feel crampy afterwards if something is going to happen. Usually go into labor within that day.
I had my membranes stripped at my 38th or 39th week appt. with one of mine (sorry, can't remember anymore!). I was already 3 cm dilated and had been for a couple of weeks. It hurt like heck, as you're probably already experiencing, but I didn't go into labor during the night. (Probably a good thing since I was finishing a final assignment before graduating from college and didn't want to worry about it after giving birth.) We did go to the hospital the next morning for a scheduled appt. to break my water. The doctor and I both expected about a four hour labor, but instead it was under two and completely natural. I'm not sure how much the stripped membranes had to do with the speedy labor; I've always assumed it had no real effect. Best of luck to you though, and I hope you have a good experience.
I was told to have sex after that. I went into labor that night~
I had my ob strip my membranes 3 times and the third time later that day my water broke and I delivered my son within a few hours :) I believe it helps and it is worth a shot!
HI--
If it didn't work this time, no reason to do it again. Your body will go into labor when you and the baby are ready. Forcing it causes pain, longer labors, fetal distress, etc. If it didn't work it's because your body wasn't ready. You could try acupuncture, blue and black cohosh, evening primrose oil or sexual relations. They will work---but only if your body and the baby is ready. Good luck!
