My husband and I are considering using Direct Buy, however, we read some bad reviews. Do yo really save money? Does it take a long time to get your order? Is it non-refundable? Have you had any problems? For those who have used Dired Buy, please let me know your experience. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I just know that when we bought our new house their telemarketers stalked us sometimes calling 2xs/ day.
My brothers friend is a member and my brother price checked items... Some were a little lower but it did not justify the membership fee, some were actually higher and some items he simply could not get through direct buy.
Can you check prices of items you already know you will be purchasing before signing up?

I made that mistake not knowing what it really was. If your seriously remodeling/ gutting your house, then yes you can get things at wholesale. I didn't need it like that and those people drove me crazy!. I had a new baby and they would call constantly I had to put the phone on vibrate! Beware!!

My sister-in-law used it when they bought their house - they loved it because they needed a lot of stuff and they wanted higher-end products. They were able to, for instance, order a dining room set in the color and design they wanted; mix-and-match chairs they wanted, etc. They got their items in a timely manner, and even tho an item was the wrong one they didn't have any problems exchanging it. Even tho it has a member fee, they were still able to save a lot because they bought so much. (But then I think friends and family also purchased things thru them - I think they all chipped in on the member fee or something.) Personally, I don't think it's worth the member fee unless you DO intend to buy a lot of stuff. Good luck!!!

We have not used it but I have heard horror stories.

I've heard they are super high pressure, think of the time share sales people and then they are very rude if you opt not to join which is a premium price.

If it were me, I would go else where, spend a little more money and get some quality products.

I have never personally been inside a Direct Buy location... BUT I worked for a guy who was a member. He was always trying to get me to sign up, it is a membership club, with a hefty membership 'fee' to join. The savings come when spending big amounts of money, remodeling a kitchen, new flooring for your entire house etc. It is not intended for the weekend DIY. That's what I've experienced. Good luck.

UNLESS you have money to build or remodel a whole house it's a BIG rip off. We lost money and I would never go near the place again as long as I live. You pay more down than you'd ever get out of it and after pricing around it's very little savings at all.

We're members, have been for YEARS. It's not for someone doing minor projects or only need a new couch. We did a major home remodel about 6 years ago (totally gutted a house and added a full second floor) and we saved about $30,000 by using Direct Buy. We bought A LOT of stuff from them - everything from tile to fixtures to lighting to the furniture to furnish the house when it was all done. Major, major savings.

Now we're in a new house and planning another major remodel. I'm thrilled I kept the membership because I plan on using them extensively again.

It is a super high-pressure sales pitch. They basically say if you don't sign up RIGHT NOW, you can't come back. You can't go home and think about it overnight - you're expected to make a decision right then and there. It's not for everyone and most people are turned off. I was, too, until I started actually comparing the prices (see next paragraph).

If you DO go for a presentation, make sure you have a list of the exact things (down to the model number so you're actually comparing apples to apples) you're PLANNING TO BUY ANYWAY and find the best possible prices for those items on your own (through online or Best Buy or wherever you'd be getting those things). Then at the presentation, you'll get a chance to look through their books and see what the DB prices are for those things. Be aware that there are handling fees, etc on top of what the prices are, though, and factor that in. When we went, I had a list of appliances and furniture I was going to get anyway for our remodel. When I did the math, we were going to make back our membership fee on the fridge and couch alone. For us, it was a no brainer. And like I said earlier, we saved around $30,000. I price shopped every item, every faucet, every recessed light fixture, every can of paint, everywhere from Home Depot to high end design centers, everywhere. I saved on almost every item over trying to buy it myself (or even getting my contractor to buy it with his discounts).

But if all you need is a new couch, it won't pay to join.
