Hello all! I am pregnant with #4 and as usual, the hormones are causing my face to break out. I have in the past went to a dermatologist and was on something that cleared it up, but I cannot take any medicine like that while I'm prego or breastfeeding. I was wondering if anyone knows of anything that I can do to help clear it up. Sometimes I use witch hazel, sometimes I use a scrub, I've tried mild cleaners (not Eucerin, but the green and white bottle). I don't know if I need to moisturize or go the other way. My skin is normally dry right after the shower, but gets oily very easily. I do not wear makeup regularly and I do not like my face being broke out and splotchy all the time. Please help!! :)

What can I do next?

Usually skin issues have to do with your liver working overtime to clear your blood of toxins. I highly suggest drinking dandelion tea and adding some sort of green drink to your diet (like wheat grass juice). It usually helps dramatically with skin issues and helps support your liver in pregnancy.

Hi,
i went through the same thing with my last pregnancy, the perfect thing for me & it didn't cost $60.00 was AVEENO ACTIVE NATURALS-SKIN RELIEF BATH TREATMENT. they sell it just about everywhere, i paid 6.00 for a 3pk that i used once a week. instead of putting it in the tub, you put it in a bowl and make it into a paste and put it on yuor face and let it sit for 15-20 min then rinse it off with warm water and after it's all off you rinse with cool water. after the first time i was really shocked it worked. it's fragrance free so you don't have to worry about any perfumes irratating your skin even more. what's even better you can refrigerate what you don't use and save it for the next week.good luck!

If your face feels tight after washing, you may be stripping the skins mantle (surface) too much. When that happens you trick you skin into thinking it needs more oil, and then you get oily. Everyone who responded has some sounds advice. Whichever way you decide to go, don't go to extremes. I was fortunate when preggo, but This might be temporary, so be kind to your skin, start from the inside out. Cleanse your liver and kidneys, and try not to get constipated. These things release toxins. If you don't release them that way, you skin must do it. Since you are preggo, most of it is probably hormones, so just use products that are pure, safe, and beneficial. No harsh chemicals and stuff. That is my suggestion. I wouldn't even recommend acne products as they are very strong. I'm not a Dr. nor do I play one on TV. I've just been in skin care for a while, and helped some others. This is just from my experience w/ them. Let me know how you do, or if you have more questions. I'd love to try to help. Like solving a puzzle! lol

Hi,
I am a consultant with the Body Shop at Home. We have a line of facial care products called tea tree. The tea tree comes from Australia and has been used by the aboriginies as an antiseptic. We have a tea tree blemish stick or tea tree oil that I have been really impressed with. It sounds like you need to be treating the breakout, while continuing a skin care regime. You should always moisturize. You just need the right moisturizer. If you are interested I would love to type cast your skin for you. You can give me your # if you want and we can do that over the phone. I am in Anderson IN. If you are close I would love to get together with you and let you try some of the products. They are all natural and edible, so they would be great for you to use when you are pregnant. I would love to help you with your skin care. You can check out the products at www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/aoaks.

Hi L.,
I'm 5 months pregnant and am having more acne now than I ever did before. My dermatologist prescribed something for me that was safe to use while pregnant and nursing. You may want to see your derm and find out if there is something he/she could prescribe for you. The cream I'm using isn't super strong so it doesn't get rid of all the ance but it definitely helps!

What do you use in the shower? Your skin probably feels dry after you shower because you have stripped it of moisture. You really need to moisturize when you come out of the shower - that is a great time, while the skin is still damp. Sometimes people think break-out mean oily skin and think that they should not moisturize. That is not true. Dry skin people can have break outs too.

I would probably suggest a gently cleanser and moisturizer coupled with a blemish control toner to start with - depending on skin type. I would not add to many things all at once. It is a trial and error process sometimes and you are better off starting slowly and added then overdoing it all at once.

I am a Mary Kay consultant and have been for 8 years. If you would like to contact me for more information or to come over for a facial and to sample products - let me know. You can e-mail me at ____@____.com or visit my website at www.marykay.com/pbuhrman

I use a topical lotion called Clenia. It's a prescription, and it's wonderful! Not sure if it's safe during pregnancy, but since it's topical, there's a good chance that it's OK. You might want to check with your dermatologist.

Hope this helps! Congratulations on your baby-to-be. I'm sure he/she will be worth the acne! :)
