We are trying for baby #2 and have been since Nov/Dec of last year(2010). I thought this month was the month because I was/am 12 days late and no bleeding and nauseous feeling. I went to the doctor yesterday for a blood pregnancy test since the home pregnancy test was a faint line, in hindsight maybe it was just my hopeful imagination. The nurse called today and left a message that the test was negative :( I'm sooo disappointed and heartbroken! Since I have been off the birth control, since Nov, I have been regular every 28 days. In April I was at 29 days then May 29 days and nothing in June and still nothing. So since I am not pregnant the nurse said the Dr wants to wait and see if I have a period in July and go from there. I am due for my annual female exam mid August and the insurance won't pay for it before then and I also have to have a referral to see a specialist/other doctor. Should I insist on seeing an OB/GYN for my annual exam and see if they can find anything that could be causing me to not have a period and not getting pregnant? Should I request blood work and if so what type? I have had a few abnormal PAPs in the past and have a biopsy done but they said that everything was fine so I don't think there is anything wrong there? Am I just being impatient and need to wait? Any advise or help or helpful, nice comments would be appreciated. Also I have already read the Taking charge of your fertility book.

So What Happened?

Thank-you for the advise. I've heard "just relax and it'll happen" a million times and like one of the ladies said, it is HARD! I went to the dr. yesterday for my check-up and I had to have my hip/pelvic area checked out and had some tests ran so hopefully I'll know something soon. My hip area isn't related to the TTC, it just pops out of place and is causing lots of pain so maybe it is best that I am not pregnant right now since my body needs to heal. Also I did start bleeding again July 17 so my cycle must have skipped. Thank-you for the kind words and I will try harder to "relax" and "be patient" etc. God knows when (if ever) is the right time is for another one for me so I have to trust Him.

Hi A.
I have been through this and I understand how frustrating it can be.
With my first we got pregnant straight away,2 months after marraige. We decided to not use birth control after our son was born and try for another. Our son is 4 yrs next month and I am currently 25 weeks pregnant so it took 3.5 yrs to get pregnant with this one.
Looking back now it was the stress, obsession with trying and my age,I'm 37 yrs ,the reasons it took so long. There is nothing physically wrong with me and it still took 3.5 yrs to conceive.
So my corny advise would be to enjoy love making, stop obsessing and if you don't concieve in the next few months then get your blood work checked etc.
Hope your preggers soon.

How old are you? If you are under 30, unless you have a specific condition, you will not be referred to an endocronologist w/o 1 year of ttc. It took us 3 years to conceive #1 (and we were referred to an endo, had the test run, and found out nothing was wrong with either one of us) -- I was 32 when I delivered.

If you are referred to an endo, the first thing they will ask before running tests is for copies of your ovulation charting (be it basal temp, fertility monitor, ovulation sticks, CM, etc), so if you are not keeping a journal, start now. Typically they start by testing dad first -- least invasive/expensive -- then move to FSH levels, Clomid challenge tests, etc with mom. Often your OB can do these tests prior to a referral to an endo. Some OBs will even do Clomid rounds prior to a referral... so check that avenue first. Much cheaper!

And I would just wait until Aug 30, heck, my GYN wouldn't even be able to get me an earlier appt than that if I called today!

Good luck!

It can take a while to get pregnant the second time...there are plenty of women who suffer from second time infertility....I think you are being impatient and need to wait.

I can tell you NOT to stress over it...it's easier said than done...It took us 4 years to get pregnant the first time!! We finally gave up and started having sex for fun again...got pregnant 4 months later....

Go to your normal OB/GYN visit in August - it's 30 days...you can wait that long....go in with a list of things you are concerned about so they can run tests....then if things are found you can request to be seen by a specialist...until then - go with the flow and don't stress...have fun! enjoy life!!

I don't really have any answers, but I wanted to let you know that I'm currently in the same boat.
We have been trying since last August for a second, my periods have been (mostly) regular, and it's just not happening. There are a few more factors involved, but it IS frustrating (especially considering that we conceived so easily the first time around).
I've begun to tell myself that it's okay even if it never happens. I already have a wonderful, beautiful, incredible son to enjoy.
Hope you find your answers. And soon!

It took us almost one year to conceive baby #2 - we were a few weeks away from my yearly exam and to start taking clomid when I found out I was pregnant. I think stressing yourself out has a big part of the delay, but I also had a friend who had a chiropractor that put her on vitamin supplements in which the combination was supposed to be comparable to clomid. I looked them up and started taking vitamins B12, C, E and folic acid every day. I got pregnant the first month I was on those, so I believe these helped me along. My friend also got pregnant a month later. Good luck - I know how stressful it can be and it's easier said than done not to stress!

It took us 8 months to conceive #2. I, too thought something was wrong since we had no trouble at all conceiving our first. Our doctor couldn't do anything fertility wise till it had been a year of trying, which was hard to hear. I ended up buying an ovulation kit. Not anything expensive, just a cheaper one from Walmart. Turns out my cycle wasn't what I thought it was, so the days I thought would be best to conceive were off. I went from a "normal" 28 day cycle to a 31 day cycle. Once I got that figured out I got pregnant within a month.
As far as not having your period, it could be stress related. Which could also be why you aren't getting pregnant. I know it's hard to hear but try to relax & destress a little bit.
Good luck!!

I know it is hard to wait but relax and be patient. IT usually happens when you're not thinking about it. I also believe GOD's timing is perfect. So find something else to focus your time on. Try yoga or something else that will help you relax.

a cyst can cause your period to be late. Normally they aren't a big deal and go away on their own, but that could be the cause of your missing period.

other than that sometimes it just takes time. You've done the reading, great book isn't it. So there isn't really anything I can think to suggest, but good luck, keep tracking, charting, eating right and enjoying the practice and you'll get it.

You poor thing-I think you are really stressing out about this too to much first of all. Secondly let me tell you I was on birth control pills for the first 5 years of my marriage. Then we started to try and conceive. Well it took us 11 months and here is what happened to us. First they tested my husband to make sure his little guys were all in working order. Once that came back as okay well then they scheduled me for an HSG (hystersalpingogram)dye test. This is where they insert dye into your fallopian tubes to ensure you don't have any blockages. I didn't have any but my mom is in the medical field and told me that a lot of women will conceive after having this procedure because if you do have any blockages sometimes the dye will push it out. I had the test done and a month later I was pregnant and not only was I pregnant but pregnant with TWINS! Don't despair it could be something as simple as my situation but I was a little confused on your post....are you not going to an OB/GYN to have these test done. Usually 6 months was the mark for them to actually do anything and when I went in to see my OB I was ready to go onto fertility drugs but he told me to slow down there were other things that needed to be done first before doing that-lol! And THANK GOD I didn't go on fertility because I probably would have ended up with a whole stinkin litter-lol! I am the only one in my family that has got hit with the gene thus far. There are three other cousins is line....I tell them to pick a number all the time....hahaha!

I too had issues getting pregnant with my second. My doc called it something, but it's slipped my mind at the moment. However, the steps she had me take first was pick up the ovulation tests at the drug store and then make sure we "got it on" when the lines showed up on the stick to prove I was ovulating (even a couple of days before if I knew my cycle well enough). She also had me watch my diet, no processed foods, no artficial dyes, lots of organic fruits/veggies that were a good source of Magnesium. If these things didn't work, she was going to check my thyroid. However, I calmed down, ate right and did the ovulation test and it finally worked.
Good luck to you, it'll happen:)
