Nothing. Head lice is at epidemic proportions across the USA and it is really NO BIG DEAL. Go to headlice.org. 90% of the old wives tales of what to do is wasted and useless time spent "cleaning" them up.
Hi to everyone! My two step daughters returned home from their mothers house ( they were there thurs thru sun eve) . I was gone at work mon from 4am till late in the eve. Tues ( after work) and my youngest step daughter tells me her head is itching, so i checked her and sure enough head lice ( nits that is no bugs). Anyhow we treated picked them out and of course treated the entire house. Of course we notified my sd mom so she could treat her house before the girls went back over. Come to find out from my sd.....BM already knew! They caught lice while at her house and she sent them over with lice without notifying us. This is the second time she has done this....
So heres the question....what can my husband and i do legally if anything....how could someone do that to their children. Any thoughts or help is appreciated!
Thanks for the recent responses. Just to clarify. My step daughtets having lice isnt the issue. I have two older children of my own both whom ive treated for lice when they were small. That was merely the history behind my question. The issue is that BM isnt notifying us or taking proper steps to get rid of the lice. She doeant notify us in re to anything medically. We normally have to find out by way of mu sd or school ect...aat some point however, when does that end. In my eyea sendin a child anywhere knowing the child has lice would raise concetns of what type of care they are receiving and isnt that putting others at risk of infestation?
Thanks

I don't believe there is anything you can do legally, I have dealt with this with inlaws and their way or lack of taking care of their childs head lice. What I started doing is putting Tea Tree oil in our Shampoo, it is suppose to help deter from getting head lice, all you need is a couple of drops per bottle of Shampoo, worst case buy the girls their own Shampoo (VO5, Sauve doesn't have to be expensive) put a couple drops of Tea Tree oil in and let them take it to BM's) Tea Tree oil is sold usually buy the vitamins runs about $5.00 a bottle
Also, when they come to your house, go buy the Target Brand of yellow Listeren runs about $2.50 for the big bottle and a couple of shower caps. Put it in their hair with the shower cap, for the day and to sleep in, wash hair normal and bedding and it should help stop the spread of head lice through your home.
Head lice really aren't that bad. See this article from the American Academy of Pediatrics:

Literally all you need to do is shampoo with Rid, then 9 days later shampoo with Rid again. That's it, that's all, nothing else you need to do. Doing anything legally is sort of silly - what if they came home with mosquito bites? It's the same thing. Just shampoo with Rid and move on with your life.
Also - it takes several days for lice to lay eggs, and the typical child has lice for a MONTH before anyone notices it. It is nearly impossible for children to get lice from their surroundings - 99% of cases, they get it from touching heads with another child with lice. Just so you know!
that's just wrong on sooo many levels....talk about lack of care...
I don't know what you can do...i would check with my lawyer to see what they say....maybe mom just doesn't care...how bad is that?
