Healthy Classroom Birthday Treats?

My son has just started preschool this week and he is the first child in his class to celebrate his bday (turning big 3!) next week. The policy at his preschool is to bring in a "healthy" treat to share with the rest of the class. I've found lots of suggestions online but none that really seem to be something a little more special or creative for a birthday celebration (or appropriate for preschoolers). Any tried and true favorites out there?

Peel bananas and spear onto popsicle sticks. I usually don't use an entire banana, maybe 1/2 for each one. Dip in melted chocolate and freeze on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper. Good luck!

Try Deceptively Delicious cook book. There is a great recipe for doughnuts made with lots of veggies and fruits. The kid LOVE them. You can also try Bobs Red Mill website for other healty cookie, muffin and cake recipes. The kids will never know they are eating fruits and veggies with whole grains and the parents will LOVE you!

I let my son give out gummies. the gummies, are, like, 80 calories, and you can get some less in calories, I think. well, that's what I did. If not that, try fruit, like banana's, or apple sauce(individual ones) ones with no sugar and nothing with corn syrup, which you should never give kids ones with sugar stuff inside it anyways. that's always a healthy snack.

hope this helps!

my son always brought cheese (cubes or sticks) and wheat thins! His favorite, and honestly, one cake (for family/party) is enough for me to deal with!

Give everyone an organic tube yogurt (not the GoGurt with iridescent blue dye). Freeze them overnight so they can eat them more like a popsicle. Have your son pick out a cute pencil to give each of his classmates and if you're feeling crafty you can print out or write little Happy 3rd Birthday flags on file folder labels in your printer. The "flag" would wrap around the top of the pencil below the metal and stick to itself to stay put.

Frozen fruit bars pr frozen pudding would be like ice cream to the kids but healthier. You could also ask the preschool since it is their rule...you may be the first of this year but not the first ever.

definitely no on the pbj's...MANY kids have peanut allergies. It's always sad when the kids with the allergy can't partake on the special treat. :(--plus the risk of cross contamination in the classroom...
I would go with bags of gummy treats or the fruit kabob idea!

I had this same issue last week and ended up making fruit kabobs. I used plastic drink stirrers as the stick. I cut watermelon about an inch thick and used small cookie cutters to make fun shapes out of it. I also used strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and canteloupe cubes. The kids and the teachers loved them.

if your kiddo likes banana bread, zucchini bread, or carrot cake.. how about that in ice cream cone/cups? Then you could do a cream cheese frosting on top? My kids are older and still love the idea. its fairly easy to do.

after you get them frosted and such you can put fun stuff on top!

Fruit. It is still grape season, especially for you lucky Californians (I'm an native, transplanted four years ago). Get a few different colors and slice them in halves or quarters and toss them all together.

I'd say skip the popsicles or anything equally messy...if I were that teacher, I'd resent you for the rest of the year. Can you imagine the mess she'd have to clean up?

I agree with the healthy muffins...make zucchini muffins (oh, yum!)!

Or, if you want to get creative, use lots of fruits, veggies, and dips in bright colors on a big tray and make it look like a picture...an animal, whatever.
However, I think the muffins would be a bigger hit with the toddlers.

Popsicles! The kids LOVE them because they are so unexpected, and you can keep it somewhat healthy by getting the ones made with real fruit juice :)

My sister did cheese slices and crackers for a Halloween party - and cut the cheese into spooky shapes with cookie cutters - it was a huge hit. Maybe your son can pick the shapes?

My son just turned 9 last week and we brought these apple muffins from Ellie Krieger (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/apple-mu.... I was thinking as I baked them that they were the same muffins we made for his bday when he was in preschool! I have made this recipe at least 25 times. They are delicious.

Also, just speaking from experience, don't bring squeezable yogurt tubes. Our preschool teachers hated them because many kids squeeze them everywhere but in their mouths!
