Can't help you with the cat situation but if I'm not mistaken, there are some places that will spay them for free. You might want to look into that especially since they're outside. You're going to end up with a bunch of kittens soon.

Please get the cats spayed and vaccinated asap. You will have more kittens. Your 2 are already old enough to reproduce. Also, there are a lot of diseases that kittens cat get like feline aids and feline leukemia. That $100 should be able to both spay and vaccinate.

I have been doing pet rescue for many years. I am involved with many pet rescue groups. You said that somebody left them. Would you like me, or another rescue, to try to find them, good, loving, permanent homes where they can be indoors too?

It's a hard life for any pet to spend it's life outdoors with storms, heat, cold, noises, predators, cars, possible cruel people, or a plethora of things that make an outdoor cats life hard.

Also, please think about it soon. Adopting kittens out is always easier than adopting adult cats out.

Take that $150 & go get them vaccinated. Then go to maricopa.gov the BIG FIX program & print out the form to get your cats fixed for free!!! We dont need anymore unwanted, outdoor cats roaming around so they keep breeding...IF they are outdoor cats (which is bad) then what does it matter if he is allergic.?? Also, just give him benadryl & tell him its your house....your mom should make him understand that its your home & YOUR rules!!!! You'd follow his if you were there & deal with what you would have to...

I agree with several of the mamas who have posted. You have got to get the cats fixed and up to date on shots. If you cannot afford them please let a pet rescue (no-kill) group take them for you. Cats are not supposed to live outside. There are plenty of programs that can assist with costs. Your step-dad needs to get over himself.

We have a bunch of feral cats in our neighborhood and we took them to Altered Tails http://www.alteredtails.org/index.html to get them spay/neutered. It is a free service (for feral cats), but they request a donation (I think we gave them $20/cat). Also there are Spay/Neuter clinics http://www.catnipandtuck.org/instructions.php or http://www.lovethatcat.com/spayneuter.html#az. It is very important to get your cats spay/neutered because they are outdoor cats. Feral cats can come into your yard, even if your cats don't leave. I know that at some Spay/Neuter clinics (there is one in Chandler) that will give a free Rabies shot with a spay/neuter. Not sure about the other shots, but I am sure there are low cost options.

Since your cats our outside cats, I can't take them because we have so many feral cats here. They are too small and they may get beaten up. I am really sorry to hear about your step dad.

You are a dear to take care of the kittens that were left. And while I cannot help you with your pet sitting situation I can offer you a low cost Spay/Neuter clinic on Sothern and Priest in Tempe. It is located in the REI parking lot and if you are standing in front of REI it is to the right. I do know if you do not get these cats fixed and shots you can have big problems. Litters of kitties etc. They always find a way. LOL. So another thing you may be able to do is look online for no cost or low cost spaying or neutering. Good luck with your situation. I don't mean to sound insensitive, I can see that you do have a dilemma, however, if the kitties live outside, not in your house as you say, how can they possibly be a problem for your step-father. Also, it is your home, if your step-father has such a problem with your pets, he should be considerate enough of you to offer to stay in a hotel. I could see there being a problem if the cats lived inside, but they don't. Unless you are planning on having dinner outside, I would not worry about it. And, if it comes up that your step-father is completely put out by your pets, suggest a nice hotel that is nearby.

You could try calling www.tailwaggersaz.com (I don't have the number right on hand). They did in home care for our cats who are VERY high maintenance...maybe she would have a referral for you? Unfortunately, if someone else watches them in their backyard your cats might freak out and jump the fence....just a warning as our cat did that when we moved to our new house. Good luck...I haven't heard of anyone other than boarding facilities who will pet sit in their own home...

I live in West Phoenix. I have a spare bedroom where your cats could stay until your step dad leaves. I have cats so I have all the stuff for them. I am also a vet tech and I used to be a dog and cat groomer. I also have dogs but the cats wouldn't anywhere near them.

Hi D.- I will not be going anywhere Thanksgiving weekend, so would be willing to take care of your kitties. Down-side- two large, rowdy dogs in the back yard, boundaries permeable to cats. I could crate & take for walks to keep them out of trouble with three indoor cats. It is the best solution I can think of. No sick cats, no cats not current on vaccines. Thanks - S.

I love persians, so know about this. I have a very allergic brother, and my sister's husband is also that way. Note this, though: Just removing the cats isn't enough. Why not let them stay outside for the holiday? But if they are in your house at all, you have their dander there, and that will raise the allergic's dander.

In your shoes, I'd be honest w/the parents and tell them you are concerned about their comfort and health, but when they come, the dander and family presence of the cats will still be felt. They would probably be better off in a nearby, cheap hotel. And consider having Thanksgiving dinner out, if you can all swing it TOGETHER. Frankly, if I despise a type of animal that badly, but really wanted to visit, I'd 1. take some allergy meds and go, hiding my hate for the animal, especially since I'm a GUEST in their home, 2. make alternate plans as listed above, or 3. just not go. JMO

Where about do you live? My daughter wants a kitty for Christmas and maybe this would be a good trial for her to see how she does. I have two boxer dogs that love other animals your kittens would come home very clean from there kisses. now i havent asked the husband yet but if you are still looking and obviously do not live to far maybe i could help you out. Since they're outdoor cats, what's the issue? Cats don't do too well being moved around. Especially if they're not boarded in a secure facility, you may end up with them lost or run over. If your step-dad can't even stand the thought of encountering cats outside, for the same money to board them it seems you could buy a large crate to make-do for the weekend.

I say let the cats stay outside as they normally do and the step dad will just have to put up and shut up - or not come. You shouldn't have to bend over backwards to make them comfortable. If your mom doesn't have the backbone to see you whether the guy approves or not she isn't much of a mom.

It will cost you less to have them spayed or neutered than to pay someone to care for them. If they are out door cats you would then have no problem. Good luck! As to the hatred toward the cats, your stepfather need have no contact and does not need to be made aware when you feed them, cuddle them, etc. Just go on with your routines. Your love for them and their place in your life is more important than a 4-day visit. Everything will be alright. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the wonderful things in our lives. May he be able to live through this experience with grace as well, even though it sounds like everyone caters to his needs, instead. Good luck! Regards, R.

I'm glad to see you found someone to watch your babies. If your considering having them vaccinated and your in the Phoenix area, consider going to the Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic for vaccinations. You have to call and make an apt, they only accept them between 8 and 8:30 a.m., but it is inexpensive. I think $26. for the pkg. There isn't a low income qualification. Call and check prices and locations at ###-###-#### (this is the Indian School location).
