Help for a Chapped Little Face

When my kids were babies, my mother called me the Vaseline Queen because I would put the stuff on any skin issue my kids had and it works great!!!!

I work in a day care with 18 month olds. I've frequently used petroleum jelly when the little ones have chapped faces. It helps the skin heal and prevents other drool from damaging the skin.

Aquaphor is the BEST! It saved my son's skin when he was a baby and still works miracles on it now that he is almost 5. We also use it on chapped lips. It is great!

Sounds like you've gotten lots of great recommendations! Just to clarify for a couple of other entries - Aquaphor is a Eucerin product. It's actually Eucerin Aquaphor! Great stuffm but pricey. Look for sales and coupons!

My sons cheeks chapped as well and I used Aquaphor lation and it worked really good. this is one item I keep stocked up on. Hope it works for you.

We used Aquaphor for our little daughters and it worked very well. We also use it for their outbreaks of Eczema, dry lips, extra protection on their little bottoms for Diaper rash; it works wonders there too. You can get a big tub of it at Costco for about $13.00.

Aquaphor is great to use. My oldest daughter was quite the drooler and it worked wonders.

I always used vaseline. I would even put it around the edge of her paci. I just made sure it was away fromhe rmouth but she was still you enough she really didn't rub it around. I also would basically rub it all the way in.

We had a brilliant pediatrician in California who was highly respected in his field (Dr. Shannon - Sea View Pediatrics).  His favorite ointment for anything was "Crisco!"  It's cheap, doesn't have petroleum in it (Vaseline and Aquaphor has petroleum in it) and works wonders for chapped cheeks, diaper rash prevention and even sore nipples from breastfeeding.  I'd suggest keeping some in your diaper bag and slathering it around his mouth often. Lansinoh (sp?) the stuff for breast feeding moms! It works wonders and provides a barrier as well.

RESINOL is an over the counter ointment you ask the pharmacist for. It works immediately for what you need it for but also as a diaper aide. I tried everything for chapping and this was quick acting, no smell, not a messy ointment.

My daughter has this issue as well, but not constantly. When we notice her chin getting red, we put either A & D Ointment or Aquaphor, which both work extremely well. Good luck!

Hey K. - I have used Aquaphor with all 3 my kids fir the drool - works great!

Aveeno makes a moisture relief cream. It really helped my daughter.

Try Butt Paste! It might help.

If he's not crying it might not really be bothering him. However, its still a good idea to try to treat it. I would recommend using lanolin. The lanolin ointment used for breastfeeding moms to avoid cracked and sore nipples is perfect for this. Its a natural product, won't hurt him if he swallows some. It will seal his skin against the extra moisture of the drool and help it heal itself.

You can get it at Target where the bottles and other breastfeeding supplies are.

This is going to sound crazy BUT it works GREAT the purple tube of lansinoh sheep lanolin you put on yourself when you have cracked nipples WORKS WONDERS On chapped anything! ITS GREAT!! I keep a tube on hand for every sortof chapped you can think of and even little cheeks and chins benefit from this great stuff you find it in your local store by the baby nursing items its a purple box hope this helps.

My sons have had the same problems. I used A and D ointment, it's meant for diaper rash but works really great on this kind of thing. I would put it on his face right before bedtime,and by morning it would look tons better.

Hi. I work for a Dermatologist here in Frisco and the best thing to put on his chin is diaper rash ointment. Mr. Smiths is the best ointment you can use for rash. You can find it at Walmart for about $6 and it's worth every penny. I will not use any other ointment on my kids. Hope this helps out.

AQUAPHOR CREAM helped with my girls. It's easy to find at Walgreens or other drug stores. Good luck.

Ever since my now two year old was a little guy, I have been using Mustela. It comes in what looks like a baby deodorant (it's so cute!). This way, you don't have to touch it before applying it to his face. It's small enough to keep in the diaper bag or purse. I really like it. It slides on smoothly.

You can find it at Babies R Us, or the Bath and Body Works flagship store at Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville.

Lansinoh lanolin is the best for this! It's natural and not filled with harsh chemicals like some of those other ointments. That was very important to me, especially around the mouth where it is likely to end up in the mouth, when my kids were drooling.

Aquaphor...works every time!

I use Aquaphor on my children. My son's love their binkies and they get a chapped ring around their lips. This stuff clears it up fast!

When my DS had this, the pediatrician recommended putting a little 1/2 % hydrocortisone cream on it. After a day or two, it was much better, then I used aquaphor or vaseline on it daily to prevent it from getting bad again. I also like Johnson's Naturals stick balm for putting on the face after bathing. Smells nice too.

I use a Mustela product - the Hydrastick - goes on nicely and it also smells good. You can get it at Babies R Us:

A Pediatrician of my first born recommended an ointment called "Corona"--no, it's not beer..it is actually a large tube or cylendrical container full of antiseptic type ointment with natural ingredients in it. It is made for livestock but before you shudder it off-it is made non-toxic an approved for use on livestock that is meant to be eaten and is harmless. It doesn't have fragrance added so it is a bit strong smelling but we now consider it a miracle salve for all sorts of issues.

It will clear up a chapped chin quickly. This is the only ointment that ever worked for our daughter's diaper rash. It works on cuts, burns and the like too and keeps a wound clean and protected but also manages to keep it moisturized by way of the lanolin (sheep's wool oil) that it is based with.

I know it sounds odd but I promise you it is very good stuff. The container is bright vivid yellow and the lid is usually bright red. Tractor Supply carries it and other local feed stores may carry it also. I no longer have a child younger than 3 but even so-we keep two large jars of the stuff on hand and use it regularly for all sorts of things...cracked heels-scrapes from kitty, etc. Hopefully you find this helpful. (It won't wash away with drool either...) :)

I had the same problem when mine was little. We use the Gerber Grins and Giggles Moisturizing Stick. It is a great size too, easy to put in the diaper bag or your purse. He is almost 3 and still uses it and loves that he has his own "chapstick". We also use it on his cheeks when they get dry too. It was not very exensive either.

I would suggest Aquaphor... it worked for my little girl.

Hands down - Aquaphor! It cures everything. A must have at home and in the diaper bag.

Ditto Aquaphor, Ditto Eucerin.

I used lanolin when my daughter was teething and had that red chin problem, or just chapped cheeks in the winter time. It's used for breastfeeding moms, so I wasn't worried about her getting it in her mouth while chewing on things. I would avoid using petroleum-based products such as Vaseline or lotions/creams that contain petrolatum, as these may irritate baby's skin.

Aquaphor works great!! I always had some on hand when my boys were little!

I use desitin for it, the clear all-purpose cream and it works really well for my little man!

Eucerin " Aquaphor" u can buy it from wal-mart but buy the original ointment the clear one not the whiet it will work very good i but it on my 3yr old boy he has very sensitive skine,work every time

My son has the same problem. I put on Eucerin cream before bedtime to help with the chapped skin then during the day I put on Aquaphor, a petroleum jelly based product. It works! If the skin looks infected, my pediatrician recommended putting neosporin on the area, which not only protects it but helps fight the infection. Good luck!!

Chalk another up for Aquaphor. It worked wonders when my kids were droolers. :)

I have used Eucerin on all four of my children's little faces and other body parts, too. It works great on everything from excema to just really dry, chapped cheeks, etc. It is also non-irritating without a lot of perfumes, etc. A little goes a long way.

We have used and loved Johnson's and Johnson's Soothing Naturals
cheek balm. It is over-the-counter and comes in a light colored package. :-)

Another vote for Aquaphor by Eucerin. We've used it for dry skin, chapped skin and as a diaper cream. The body wash for babies is also great. It is pricey, but lasts a long time. I picked up a bunch of free samples from Babies R'Us when I was pregnant!

Chapstick. I use carmex but my little ones complain that it burns so I got them the chapstick brand and it works wonders!! Good luck!

Try vaseline it worked great when my daughter was younger!!! It does not sting or burn.

Definitely Aquaphor (by Eucerin...sp?)...that stuff is amazing. Our little guy has the same problem and, when we put Aquaphor on it, he heals up almost immediately. It was recommended by both our pediatrician and his prior daycare center.

I just had the same thing happen with my daughter, but she is two and a half. I first used Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream, which is a great cream for chapped lips or any cut. I then just put Vaseline on it. It went away in three days. I didn't want to put medicine on it. Hope that helps.

I hated the look, but vasoline fixed the problem for my daughter pretty well.

For face/mouth area chapping, I swear by Aquaphor - it is made by Eucerin - and it is a barrier that keeps the area from getting wet again while protecting what is already chapped. Either the pot or the tube - they are just the same and I have tried both. It is red/white/blue on the lotion aisle at CVS or Walgreen's or Wal-Mart. It's worth what you pay because it usually clears it up in one application, two at the most. We especially use this one during the winter months!

When my little girls were that age my doctor recommended any diaper rash cream or a little bit of baby powder on the chin area. I know it is not appealing but just try it while you are at home and then while you are in public it should be fine without ointment. Hope this helps!

Plain old vasaline works great for me and my kids. It's safe and if you put in on at night it will stay on the best because the baby doesn't drool as much, but you can apply it as much as possible. good luck

i would use renew...its a great working lotion. Its also sensitive enough for a baby's face. It doesn't contain any harsh chemicals or toxins either. It works great for diaper rash too!!

I see several people have already suggested lanolin. I do too. It works great. I use it on diaper rashes, bug bites, and all chapped skin. You should give it a try.

Eucerin!!!!! We even get the Wally brand and it's great! The cream that comes in the pot, not the tube, is the best! That's what the doc recommended when my son was about 3 mo for Eczema and we have found 1000 other uses!

Vaseline works the best.

Go and get some Aquafer, it great. You can find it just about any where, Walmart has it in a big tube for under $5. Make sure the face is clean and dry, rub some in where it's needed. It will moisturize the area and keep it from getting dry and chapped from the drool.
