After two or three months of you being miserable the week before my period I think I realized what is was this week. I have developed PMS. I have never experienced this before. I am moody,irritabe,snappy and just miserable the week before my period. I am driving my husband crazy. ever thing he does infuriates me. I am ever getting short tempered with the girls. So now that I know what the problem is what do I do? I know I need to exercise more and eat better. Maybe vitamins? I really don't want to go to the doctor and get on a pill yet. I am hoping to work on this with out medication. Any advice from those who have experienced this would be great. What has worked for you?
I have done some research the pas few days. Many things are linked to PMS, poor diet(I have), no exercise(I don't do), too much caffeine(I have been drinking too many sodas lately). Also a mulit vitamin with B6 and calcium can help reduce your PMS. I am going to try these for a few months and see what happens. Thanks to everyone for your encouragement and advice. I will keep you posted.

I just want to tell you that you're not alone! In fact this past week, my husband turned to me and said, I guess we know what time of month it is.. I think I chucked something at his head (even if only in my mind) and then we got into a fight about how rude he is.
Low and behold, the next morning my period arrived. Arg! I hate when he's right! lol!
Hang in there and know that it has nothing to do with the pill. Don't go on it if you're not ready. I've never been on the pill, I'm 27 and I only have two children. No 24 children here!
Just know you can't have sex (or it will be risky) one to three days after your period, which is when you are most fertile.
(And when your husband ironically will want to have sex the most! lolololol!)

You are wise to try other things before going to the doctor because doctors are becoming more and more dependent on prescriptions as the answer to every ailment. Our bodies were not meant to survive on meds, but on foods. One very important thing is EFAs, essential fatty acids, which can be found in good fish oils such as Carlson's brand or Norweigen brand at your health food store. Cod liver oil is best in winter as it includes vit. D which we get from the sun. You do not need the vit. D in the summer as you are very likely getting plenty of it in our wonderful sunshine state. Another thing to consider is that in today's adulterated food supply, we get an abundance of harmful things even if we are trying to eat well. Therefore, fungus in our bodies is a major issue and shows up in many ways, some of which are vaginal yeast infections, athelete's foot, digestive problems, and fuzzy thinking to name only a few. It is rampant among women, men, and even children. A really great probiotic, which can also be found at the health food store, can help. Sometimes as we get older our hormones become unbalanced. We can become estrogen dominant, which can mean that our bodies aren't producing as much progesterone so the estrogen is dominant throughout the cycle. It can also mean that we are overexposed to what are known as xenoestrogens, or substances (plastics, soy, chemicals in personal care products, pesticides, etc.) that mimic estrogen in our bodies, thus raising the estrogen levels. You may want to have your hormones tested. Some great PMS remedies that can correct this imbalance are: chaste tree berry, natural progesterone cream, and acupunture. I have used all three and they worked. I've also heard that some of the BSometimes it takes a few months before you see results. I'd be careful with the natural progesterone cream unless you are sure your have a progesterone deficiency. A way to tell is to take your basal body temperature. Testing your BBT is also a great way to know when you are fertile to either help you get pregnant or to avoid pregnancy. I hope this helps.

Correcting diet and using a PMS formula (I recommend homeopathic) should work
I have terrible PMS. I have found out from my doctor that woman after 30 experience a drop in progestrone, " The Happy Hormone". You can get it at the health food store in a cream or from your doctor in a capsual (insurance covers). It is nothing like taking estrogine and is safe. In other words is not cancer causing. My doc recommended taking it day 12-28, Day 1 being the first day of your period. The other thing that works for me is taking evening primrose oil and flaxseed oil, you can get it at healthfood stores. It regulates our hormone system and makes your skin great too! We don't get those oils in our diet as much any more.

My mother is the same way and she does not want to take the medications either. She is taking the herbal supplements instead. You can find mood enhancing pills at wal-greens and GNC...Ask the clerk to help you find the right ones for you. You definitely sound like you need to take a mini-vacation for yourself, by yourself. Go to a spa for a day or just go to the movies by yourself. Take time off, exercise or take a nap...just refresh and jump start your body. I'd stop drinking caffeine, if you're taking any, that is. Start eating healthier, no fast food. My mom is a wonderful woman, and I never would have thought she had this problem until she told me about it. Good luck, T.!

Hi T.! I think you are on the right track about eating better and getting exercise. You'll feel better in general. I also highly recommend a basic yoga class. It is amazing. It really helped me during times of stress. When I was feeling the stress coming I would use some of the breathing and relaxation techniques that you use in the beginning and end of the class. I also find when I have PMS that I had to learn to catch myself when I was in a "crazy" moment, stop myself, take a deep breath and re-focus. It took awhile to learn to stop myself but it helped-I never had to hurt anyone! heehee!
Web MD and other internet sources that deal with PMS is a good place to start since you are trying to avoid the doctor (however a visit doesn't mean you have to take medication). Do you have a support group that you can get together with and take a moment to unwind and relax?
When you are not on PMS how do you handle the situations that seem to blow out of proprtion when you are experiencing PMS? Is it a night and day difference or can parallels be drawn in your reactions/responses? What are your triggers?
I encourage you to focus on what you do what instead of what you don't. Reframe the way you think about your situation. Don't move out of fear, frustration or hopelessness. How do you want to be, think on those things? Practice by continiously speaking out what you want. The more you do it the more you will believe that is who you are. For example say to yourself I am calm, in control, at peace and respond in love. It will take a few days of purposefully doing this throughtout the day but before you know it that is what will flash before you. Ask your husband for his help and don't fault him when he does.
Don't let yourself walk in defeat, guilt or shame! Just pick yourself up and keep going. Learn to forgive yourself and to ask for forgiveness. Take charge of your emotions or they will run rough shot over you and your family. You are not alone in your struggle and reaching out for help is courageous. You are stronger than you think!

I know you don't want to take a medication, but...I take a very low dose of Lexapro and it does the trick. I got off of it for a while and noticed a huge difference.
I tried Zantax for a while and it worked, but it's very addictive. Best of luck! You will figure out what works best for you. Talk to your doctor.

It would be truly helpful for you to read the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" by Dr. John Lee. This book will help you to recognize and resolve PMS as well as other female symptoms/problems.
I actually have PMDD, a severe form of PMS. (Premenstral Dysphoric Disorder)While I am on medication, excercise is the best medicicine of all. I don't excercise as often as I should, but it's amazing what it can do for you. That was the first thing we tried before medication. I just had it so severe that nothing else seemed to truly help. I also take extra calcium along with my regular vitamins.

A good friend of mine has had amazing results with accupuncture.
I have used a natural progesterone cream that did the trick for me. You can go into any health food store or some pharmacies and inquire about it. It balances out your hormones but I understand it should not be used by people with histories of certain types of breast cancers. Check with you doctor. I told my doctor I was using it and she was great with it and said she encourages many of her patients to try it. I order a natural progesterone make from plants. No pharmaceutical companies involved.
I used to curl up in a fetal position and cry for about 24 hours once a month. With each baby it got worse.
I couldn't take it anymore. I had to do soemthing different. My doctor wanted to put me back on the pill to "regulate" me. I wanted help and she wanted to drug me.
I chose a different route. I got on a total health and wellness plan (vitamins, minerals, mutrients and mild exercise) and no pains no more...ever...not even once! WOO HOO!!!!! If I didn't keep track on my claendar, I would have no idea when "My aunt Flow from Red Water" was coming to town! LOL.

You are not alone. I am a mother of 3 and I am married. I am going through the same thing. I have no clue what to do about it either. It is not easy being a mommy, because when you have kids you start to lose your memory and then after a while you start to feel like you are going crazy.
I do not want to go on meds. I think that eating right and working out will do me good. I don't know. I will keep my eyes open and see if there is any great advice given to you on this issue. I wish us all the best and GOD BLESS US ALL.

T.: I can really relate to your situation, I never actually dealt with PMS until after the birth of my first born, after that I felt like I would mutate each month into something totaly out of this world, but after talking with my OBGYN she assured me that taken 300 mg of Calcium carbonate four times a day helps reduce bloating, depression, pain, mood swings and even food cravings. The calcium levels are supposedly lower in women with PMS that take calcium supplements & it reduces the severity of symptoms temendously, well It worked for me I hope if you decide to try it that it will work for you too!
