Help, I'm Pregnant and Can't See My Toes, Let Alone Reach Them! :)

I am pregnant with my first baby, a little boy, and in week 26. I have gotten to the place where I cannot see my toes. It's also the time of year where I would love to have nicely painted toenails, and beautiful heels. Unfortunately I can't reach them very well, and let's face it, I want an excuse to be a little pampered and now I have one! I am looking for advice on where the best pedicure in the Boston/Cambridge/JP area is. Also, where is a good, safe place for a prenatal massage? and my third, and final question: Does anyone recommend any of those pregnancy yoga/exercise dvds for helping stay at least a teeny bit toned during pregnancy?

Thank you so much!!!!

Congratulations K.!!
I am 34 weeks pregnant with twins and completely appreciate the challenges of toe nail care when you can't touch your feet :) I currently splurge on nail care right now. I stopped going to my favorite place on the corner because I did not want to risk infection. I've been going to Bella Sante because of they're cleanliness. I echo the previous comment about the massages there too. They are a nice splurge!!

I am a member at Healthworks Downtown and enjoy my less expensive massages there by Madalyn and Lisa. Healthworks also offers prenatal yoga! I took it as long as I could. The class taught me what I should and should not do so I could modify my regular DVDs at home. In general I held poses a little shorter and reduced my twisting poses as I got bigger. I am a huge advocate of yoga during pregnancy, but as you know you need to listen to your body.

Good luck K. and Best Wishes!!

Hi-

If you have a car, there is a place in Weymouth called Muscle Medics. There is a woman there- I believe her name is Kathleen (I think she is the only one that does pre-natal massage)that gives a fabulous massage. She knows exactly where to massage and gets every sore spot on your body. I would highly reccomend her! The place is not too far off of Rt. 3.

I am 17 weeks pregnant with my second baby and plan on getting at least a few this pregnancy. I can't wait!

K.,

I know it is indulgent, but Mothers' Day is coming. I had the best assage ever when I was pregnant. I had it at Bella Sante on Newbury Street in Boston. I can't remember what the guy's name was, but I think that they only had one man doing massages at that time. Worth the money!!!

Hi K.!
I'm not sure about answers to your first two questions but I highly recommend GAIAM Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea! It has poses for each trimester! I know I benefited from it! Good luck!

Destination Maternity in Natick (on the Wellesley boarder on RT. 9) has prenatal massage and FREE prenatal yoga classes. And other FREE classes for when your baby is born. I highly recommend the baby massage class.

Congratulations K.! I remember when I was pregnant with my boy (he is now 27 months old!) and getting to the point in the pregnancy when I felt sooo big! I couldn't put socks or boots on or take them off :)

I don't know of a good pedicure place but I was pregnant again last year :) and had amazing full body massages at Boston BodyWorker. I believe they have a couple of places in the Boston area, but the one I went to and loved is in downtown crossing. It was unbelievable!

I don't know about the yoga exercises, sorry but walking is excellent (especially since it's nice now) to stay fit. For overall pregnancy wellness, chiropractic care once a month worked wonders for me!

Congratulations again!

LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!! Fantastic indiviual care and excellent pedicures! I learned a lot too! I usually get pedicures every other week at a regular nail place but splurged a bit and got the "posh" pedicure. It was Fantastic! My feet are super soft, look beautiful and I don't think I will need another pedicure for at least 3-4 weeks! I highly recommend this place! www.wetpaintnailsalon.com.

Congrats K.! I just had my baby in March and I don't miss those days of not being able to reach my toes! I live in Watertown where the mani/pedis are cheap everywhere. A normal manicure is $10. You can take the bus out from Harvard Sq. to a place on Mt. Auburn St. in Watertown Sq. across from Staples that does a good job and is cheap. I had never gotten a pedicure until I was pregnant-for the same reasons you mentioned-and it was awesome! They even massaged my legs up to the knee which I wasn't expecting and really appreciated. It was just what I needed at a time when I was feeling my lumpiest. I'm sure there are other places closer to you but if you are in the area there's no place that overcharges in this town probably because it is outside of Boston.
There are a bunch of free yoga classes at the Destination Maternity store on Route 9 in Framingham as well as free parenting/breastfeeding/birthing classes if you can get out there. I went to all of them before Alice was born. The yoga isn't the best but it gets you nice and stretched out. They also have a spa that caters exclusively to moms. They do offer prenatal massage and you can be sure they know what they are doing. Its certainly not cheap though.
I have a yoga DVD by the Crunch that I only did once. I'll give it to you if you want. Its good, I just never really got into it. I do better in classes.

RE: pedicure: How about The Square Nail in Davis Square? I've only been once (as a gift); what I liked was that they don't use the usual chemical-smelly nail polish. I forget the woman who did my pedi, but I thought she did a good job.
