Help Me Find a Church in Omaha

Hello everyone,

I have lived in Omaha four almost 4 years now. Unfortunately, I haven't ever belonged to a church since I moved here. After I started dating my boyfriend, I would occasionally join his family at their church, St. Leo's. However, I am not catholic, so I don't feel comfortable there. I want to find a church that is welcoming, non-judgemental, and something that I can feel a real part of. I am a non-denominational Christian, and I want to bring my daughter up with God in her life. If anyone has any suggestions on any great non-denom Churches her in Omaha, please let me know! :) I live by Westroads mall, but I am willing to travel to any part of town for the right church. Thank you all so much ahead of time!

What can I do next?

My husband and I go to EBC (Evangelical Bible Church) on 78th and Fort. It is a verry good church. They teach truth from the Bible and have great kids programs. We have a 2 1/2 year old and an 8 month old and feel verry comfortable with them in children's church and nursery there, we have been going there for over 10 years now and would love to meet you there some Sunday and introduce you to some of your friends.

I would suggest that you go to Trinity Church off of 156th and Dodge. It is a great church and non-judgemental. They have traditional and non traditional services. There is a lot of activities for the whole family. I hope this helps you.

I live in Bellevue and LOVE our church. I am sure that you can find a good one closer to you. My church is Calvary Christian Church on Cornhusker between 36th street and 25th street. We had been attending another church here in Bellevue when our daughter (age 8) said, "I don't want to go to church anymore. How do you even know there is a God, you can't see him". We decided it was time to try a different church. We went to Calvary and 6 months later she asked us if she could be baptized. We were soooo happy!

My husband and I grew up in different churches. We wanted to have just 1 church for our family so we church shopped whenever we moved (we were military). We would go to different churches each week until we found one we liked. That really worked for us.

I hope you find a great church in your area!

Good Morning N.! I wanted to tell you about Kingsway Christian Church...that is where my family and I attend. It is located at 139th and Pacific St. We found it last fall after trying numerous churches...it was the one that felt like home to us. The people were very inviting and welcoming. They have a wonderful kids program. I have two children (ages 6 and 4) and they love it as well! They ask if it is Sunday yet so they can go to church! :) The church has a website http://www.kingswayomaha.org/. Look around a bit if you would like. Best of luck finding the right fit for you and your family!

I go to Covenant Family Church, we are a non-denomination church. I have been to some of the other churches mentioned, but they were just too big for me. CFC is a small church; we have contemporary worship with a hymn every now and then. We have children’s classes and nursery during the sermon. We meet at the Liberty Christian Center on the second floor at 60th and Lst.

Hi N., my name is B. and my husband and I were married at a wonderful church (one in which we were not full time members of, and they made you feel very welcomed, accepted and comfortable as is) It is Northwest Hills United Church of Christ (NWHUCC) at 9334 Fort St. (93rd and Fort St.). It is a wonderful place, and if we can get back to making an effort to go occasionally or regularly someday, that will be the place. I have never felt so accepted in a non-judgemental, non-denominational way at a church before. Best of Luck to you. Also they have a wonderful facility for a nursery/pre-school/bible school area. They also have a contemporary sermon with a live choir and band to sing along with in between the traditional sermons. I think they are at 8:00 am/ or 9:00 am and then again 10:00am or 11:00 am, I can't remember the exact times.

You will have to look up exact addresses for these churches as I only know the vicinity.
Omaha Christian Center 92 & Taylor
Pacific Springs 168t & Pacific
Lighthouse On The Hill 43rd & Bancroft
Emmanuel Fellowship (Across From Northwest High School)
Eagles Nest on 58th & Redick
These are a few that my family and I have associated with over the recent years in our search for a home church. These are mostly Assemblies Of God churches. They were very friendy and welcoming. Hope you find one soon!

N.- though I not "active" as much as I would like, I attend Christ Community Church... it is actually right across the street from you (Old Mill area south of Dodge) They have been super great with tons of different groups and activities for all ages. I was raised Catholic and married a Lutheran who isn't active in his faith, though we feel our boys need to be raised Christian. After "church shopping" we really like CCC and they have been very inviting and pleasent to be a part of. You should come try it out. Our head pastor is a riot. I love how he relates God and the bible to everyday life and in a way that someone young and confused like me can understand. They also have a super nursery and sunday school for kids. If your interested, contact me... I can try to show you around or you can just come and see for yourself without any obligation!

We used to attend Trinity Interdemoninational Church. It's located at 156th & Dodge, on the south side. We really felt fed by the Word and knew the pastor was a man of God. Another church I have heard is really good is Glad Tidings. That's located around 114th/108th & Pacific area. I'm not real sure where because we never went there beings we felt "at home" with Trinity. Those are the two I would definitely recommend you check out. Have fun finding your church!

My family goes to Countryside Community Church. It welcomes any religion and is very non-judgemental. We love it and it has a good children's programming. My kids really enjoy going every week. It is located at approx. 89th and Pacific near Westside High School. We just recently got a new minister and we are really excited about some of the new ideas he is bringing to the church. Good luck on your search to find a church!

There are 2 unitarian churches in Omaha,
http://www.firstuuomaha.org/
http://www.secondunitarianomaha.org/
they are open, so if your husband is catholic and you are something else, you can both go and find what you need there. The children programs are awesome, they teach the children respect for all the religions and help them to find their place in the world.
Hope it helps.
