My son is 21 months old and he has been sick since he was born. I tried to breastfeed him for a few weeks and he had a very hard time having bowl movements, I tried a few different kinds of milk and to this day he still has problems using the bathroom. When he turned 6 months he began getting ear infections one after the other. For his first birhtday he got tubes put in both ears because he had had a total of 9 ear inferctions in 6 months. After the ear tubes were put in he no longer got ear infections but had sinus infections and strep at least once every month or every two months. With in the last month he's had step, and infected stye, horrible cough, runny nose, and a fever that was said was due to a virus. He takes vitamins, and his doctor has refered him to an immunologist but in the mean time I don't know what to do with my child. He stay's home with my mom so I can't blame school for the illnesses.

What can I do next?

What kind of milk is he drinking now? I know this sounds simple, but is he on cow or goat dairy? Mucus and constipation are classic dairy PROTIEN allergy or intollerance symptoms. My kids have never had an ear infection and I really think it is because they were both allergic to milk and had to be on Alimentum and then Neocate Jr. to stay dairy free.

Maybe try to cut dairy and see if you see anything. Neocate is so super expensive, but Alimentum is in the store, so you could give it a try for a week and see what happens. The reduced lactose and Lactaid type milks don't work because they cut the milk sugar, but if it is the protein, these can't be altered in the same way.

I am very sorry for you frustration and problems, I hope between mamapedia and the doctor we can help you help him. Good Luck and best wishes~

Call the pedi, discuss these issues and ask for a CBC count - they will draw and test the blood chances are there is an issue.

I asked my son's pedi for this too, turns out there was an issue - lucky we cought it and we were able to move on - glad I listened to my insticts that there was a problem.

I'm sorry for you, hopefully once he's able to get over all of these sicknesses he'll end up with a stronger immune system. Both my kids seemed to always have colds in their first two years of life, now they hardly ever get sick. They're outside a lot running around, I think that helps.
Also, I'm assuming not, but he's not around any cigarette smoke right? Hope he gets better soon!

Oh no! I have no advice for you other than to say, and I am sure you are, just make sure you keep things tidy. When Dad gets home from work, have him change his clothes as soon as he gets home. He could be dragging some of it home from work unintentionally. Also, when you go out make sure you change your clothes when you get home as well. Use the cart wipes to wipe down the cart. I am so sorry for you. That has to be so hard

My best friends boys sound just like your lil guy? Does he also have asthma by any chance...turns out my girlfriends boys have severe food allergies--but also a family history? Any other signs of milk dairy allergies, like eczema or anything?

Sounds like your ped. has ruled out allergies if he's sending him to an immunologist but if not might be worth investigating. Sure hope you find answers I know how hard and frustrating it was to me friend and finally getting answers!

you are not alone. My son is a little over 1 and has hand foot and mouth 3 times. I think he just gets exposed to this stuff because of his older brother. He has also had an ear infection about 4 times in his first year. Give us an update on the immunologist. I never even though to bring my youngest to a specialist but it may be worth the trip. On a brighter note, my pediatrician keeps saying he will have a very strong immune system when he is in school. Only time will tell.

What is your child eating? Is he eating enough fruit and veggies and protein. What about Yogurt, does he eat any?

Out side of confirming that you are and he is eating all the viatmins, I think the Immunologist is the way to go.

I have been lucky, over all my kids are pretty healthy. But so are my husband and I.

Good Luck.

I would see an allergist and have him tested - may be food allergy related or environmental - I doubt it's been viral every time!! Wish you the best of luck and I hope your son is feeling better ASAP!
