HELP! Potty Training Son

I am in the process of trying to potty train my son. Only question is are they supposed to learn how to shake their drips at 3? Or do I dap it with toilet paper? I know this sounds cheesy but I am a single parent and am not very sure how this happens. I potty trained my girl fairly easily being as how she is a girl. It took her ages though. So my main question is what are 3 year old boys supposed to do after going pee? I have been dabbing it with toilet paper. My bf thinks its funny but heck he lives elsewhere so he cant help. So my thing to do is that just until he gets a little older. He doesnt understand what I mean when I say "shake your drips". And when he tries he gets it all over his hands.

My son is 3 and my husband taught him to "shake it off". Teach him this, b/c trust me, other kids will tease him a bit for using tolit paper down the road. My cousin's son (she was a single mother) was teased b/c he used tissue and sat down to pee. Teach him to shake and then wash his hands. I buy these cleaning wipes from target, but any wipes will work. and use them to clean the few drips on the tolite.

My son is also 3 and we're using toilet paper. I agree that it's too hard for them to learn to shake it off. Toilet paper has been working great for us...he'll learn the other way eventually. He's also sitting down to pee and my grandma made fun of us for that...but he's just not tall enough. So she said I should get him a stool--well then he's too tall. I think sitting down is fine for now! Again, he'll learn the other method when he's ready.

My hubby taught our 3 yo to shake, shake, shake. It is very entertaining to watch. He does clean up his drip mess. At 1st he got pee on his hands but that only happened a few times and also help me to reinfore the importance of hand washing. HTH - good luck.

I went to a co-worker with twin boys on this one. She said, just show him how to shake the drips, & it's gonna be a messy process. He will get it on his hands, but this is a good opportunity to teach washing your hands after using the potty. After a while he'll get the hang of it.

I was a single mom when I was potty training my now 7 year old.... teach them to use a square or two of toilet paper...that way you can also teach him to wipe the drips up off the toilet then put it in the bowl and flush it away. My 7 year old shakes now but does know to wipe up the bowl if he sprinkled and it's less to clean! :) Good luck!
