HELP!!! My daughter whom is 12 was making a microwave macaroni and cheese (the ones that you just open, add water and nuk) Well you can probably guess what is next. Yes she forgot the water and put the container in the microwave for the three minutes and it was a mess. The container melted and the noodles were a black chard mess. The smell and yellow staining in my microwave is awful. I have tried soft scrub with bleach. magic eraser and comet. Still yellow. As for the smell I have no idea what to do. Right now I am boiling baking soda in the microwave in hopes that will help. Any ideas on how to get the smell out of the microwave and the yellow stain out.
Update on the burnt smell in microwave. The lemon juice and water did the trick. I ended up using two 15oz bottles of lemon juice but after the first time I could see that it was working. It even made the stain disappear. It just wipes right off. Thank you to everyone who responded.

LOL, I have a microwave sitting on my front porch as we speak...What a smell, it's been out there since the middle of March. I tried vinegar, but will give the lemon juice a try.

when I want to clean my microwave really well I put in a big mug half full of water and half full of lemon juice and microwave on half power for about 8 minutes. The citrus smells great and softens up any stuck on gunk (especially on the top)--hope this helps with that burnt smell!! Not sure if anything will get that stain out after burning plastic...is it just cosmetic? Good luck!
Easy off makes a mocrowave cleaner. It is a little pouch that you put in the microwave for a few minutes and it expands then "pops". You leave it for a minute or 2 and then there is little rag inside to wipe it clean. They kinda smell like lemons.
When I had been married about 4 months, hubby was still in the army and went out to the field. We had recently bought a microwave and I wanted a baked potato for dinner. So I popped it in and set it for what I thought was the right time. At home, mom and dad had this huge old one that still worked and that is what I was used to. Well, it was too long and it caught fire! Talk about a mess. I had to leave the baking soda in it for a few days and the burn never did come out but it still worked. I don't know who laughed more, hubby or me. I was so emarassed!

To get rid of the smell, have you tried cooking something else in the microwave with a strong scent?
A good help (though not sure if it will work) - boiling water and baking soda in the mcrowave -- it's a great fix for stove and oven issues.
Also just boiling water helps steam the mwave.
Oh my have I been here!! LOL. We were putting up our Christmas tree and I decided to make popcorn. Well we put in a single serving bag, yep you guessed it for 3 1/2 minutes. I walked into the kitchen with the nice greyish brown air, deciding to take out what was left of the bag and the popcorn, smoking all of the way outside. Well I ended up using orange peels in a bowl of water and would cook it for a couple of mins at a time. ( I did this a couple of times). Then I made a paste of the water and baking soda and scrubbed it out. It is great now except for the little brown stains on it.
I would leave the door to the microwave wide open when you are in bed. Let the smell dissapate.

pour straight vinegar in a small bowl. let it
sit in micro wave for a while. I doubt it would
hurt if you turned it on for 1 min. The vinegar will absorb the smell. It works for cigarette
smoke smells in a room. ( I've never tried it)

Also, baking soda absorbs orders. Set a box in
micro BUT DON't turn it on ! ! Just let it set.
I would rub the baking soada all over and let it set for over night and wash it out.
Try boiling water with fresh lemon juice in it. Put in the micorwave for about 2.5 minutes and then let sit for at least 5 minutes, then wipe out...hopefully this will help!!
