So I had a repeat c-section 3 weeks ago (no pushing, no straining) and I get a painful hemorrhoid. I took stool softeners for 3 weeks prior and have continued them through now, and try to keep an adequate water/fiber intake. I have tried Tucks, Prep-H, and sitz baths without relief. Help! Any suggestions? I have a 2 year old and now a 3 week old, so sitting and avoiding activity is not an option!

Go to the natural vitamin store and get White Oak Bark. You can make a paste mixing it with something like coconut oil and put it directly on the hermorrhoids, and you can also take it internally. Take about six capsules at night before you go to bed. This should shrink them up within a day or two. If not, take a little more. If you're breastfeeding it won't hurt the baby. Worked wonders for me!!

It's possible that your hemorrhoid is internal. Have you tried the hemorrhoid suppositories? It's a little "stick" of hemorrhoid medicine you push into your rectum (kind of like a tampon, but in your bum). Gross, I know, but it could help! They are sold at any grocery store with the Tucks pads.
I suffered with the same thing on and off for years. It finally got so bad last year I had the surgery and still occasionally get them. Here is what works best... First icing this area is crucial and a huge relief immediately. Be religious about it only for 20 min at a time. I also take the supplement Hem Care I get at Vitamin Cottage. It helps to prevent them by working from the inside and strenghtens the circulation and the skin in that area. If you continue to use the creams you are thinning the skin and that may cause more to come later.
Good luck - but right now ice is your best friend if you want to get up and around more quickly.
If the swelling just won't go down, try your doc again. Of course you probably know you should be pushing the hemoroid back up into the rectum everytime it comes out (this really does help, even though it's painful).
If it keeps fissuring (splitting), just use triple antiobiotic cream four or five times a day on it. good luck, been there!

After my 2nd c-section, I had pain also and it ended up being a fissure. I was given some topical medication to try first, which did help somewhat but then opted for surgery. While the recovery from the surgery was a bit painful--it was still better than living with the pain every time I went to the bathroom. Plus, I didn't want my oldest to see me hurting while we were trying to potty train her.
Anyway--check with your doctor to see if maybe it is more than a hemorrhoid. If it is a hemorrhoid, maybe try the suppositories??

You should go talk to a pharmacist. I had a really bad hemorroid when I was pregnant with my last child. So I went to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist for a good hemroid cream. The cream he showed me worked great. The only thing he said was if I had been in the first trimester of pregnancy he would have recommended something else. I used to be a pharmacy tech. which is why I went to a pharmacist for an over-the-counter question. They are very smart. When it comes to medications or products I trust them more then doctors because they really do have a through understanding of how different products will interact. and how they will effect you.

I was in the same boat after I had my first child. I just did what the doctor told me until my Mom reminded me of what to do -- take Slippery Elm. You take it once a day until it goes away. It heals both external and internal ones. It took about 3 days for me to start feeling better. Then you just wean yourself off after it goes away -- every other day, every three days,etc. You can find it at any health food store in capsule form. What it does is heal your intestinal tract and makes that whole process work properly. It corrects constipation and diarrhea, so remember that when you get either one of those in the future. Kids can also take half dose -- I just put it in yogurt (has kind of a licorice flavor). I believe that prescriptions are only temporary and don't fix the problem in the end, if at all, so I will always try natural things first.
Aloe Vera and Cayenne Pepper are great too. I usually take both of those with my vitamin supplements on a daily basis. Best wishes to you.
I got tired of going back to the doctor every couple of months. I just drink aloe vera juice or gel from the health food store and took cayenne pepper pills each day. The pepper pills are for circulation and that is what a hemorrhoid is caused by. Some kind of blockage caused the blood vessel to pop out and cause the hemorrhoid.
I got a prescription cortisone suppository from my midwife--that helps a lot. TMI ALERT: Unfortunately, my youngest is nearly 5 and the 'roids still plague me. But the cortisone suppository helps so much! When I'm really itchy/in pain, it feels good especially if I keep them in the refrigerator, so they're nice and cold.
