Help with Teething 15-Month-old

My 15-month-old is getting her first molars and having a terrible time with it. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions on making this a little easier on her. Sometimes getting her to eat is tough. Last night my husband gave her some jello for dinner.
Her little cheeks are rosy and she has become very clingy. I want to make this easier on her -- and mom and dad -- and was hoping for some ideas.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for your responses and advice. The teething tablets always seemed to work for us, but this seemed like a whole other ballgame.
I put your suggestions to use and things are definitely better now. I did find, though, that Motrin definitely worked better than the Tylenol.
Teething is rough and I'm definitely not looking forward to it with my four-month-old.

From about 4 months until over age 2 I used Hyland's Teething Tablets on both of my boys. It was the most amazing, simple thing I ever used. They dissolved in seconds, so even if they were half awake and crying from the teething there was never any fuss or fight to get them to swallow. It was nearly INSTANT relief for them and the best thing to help them get back to sleep or calm them down.
Children's Advil or Motrin is what I used for the pain and swelling and always seemed to work faster/better/longer than Tylenol.
Good luck!

My son is 16 months old and having issues with his molars coming in. I am lucky that he will usually eat breakfast and lunch without too much of a fuss but by dinner he is grabbing at his mouth and fussy. When they bother him he will eat cottage cheese, yogurt, or Stage two baby food. And the infant's motrin works well at night for him because the Tylenol wasn't cutting it.
Also a friend of mine recommened the vibrating star teether. I think you can only get it at Babies R Us. My husband got him a round vibrating teether from target but my son didn't like it.

Don't laugh at this but my mother use to give my sisters and I a frozen hot dog to chew on when we were teething. She said that by the time it was un-thawed, there was nothing left for us to choke on. You can also try a frozen wash cloth. I did that one with my oldest daughter. She loved it.

Have you tried frozen carrots? At least she'll be getting some good beta carotine...

As for the teething tabs - many contain belladonna, so go easy on them. A little is probably ok.

The best thing I found to help with teething when my kids were younger is something called Humphrey's #3. They are little white type sugar looking pellets that dissolve in their mouth. This also helps with sleeping as well. You can get them at most pharmacies, however you may have to ask the for them at the pharmacy counter. They are about $5 or $6 the best investment ever. If you ask anyone who knows about these they will say the same.
Good Luck.

I can totally relate to that! My daughter was so miserable and clingy while teething. A lot of the time we just gave her cold soft foods like pudding and jello, and gave her tylenol if it was really bad. She seemed to like chewing on wet washcloths (don't ask me why, I guess it's soothing!). One day, she just snapped out of it, I guess when her teeth finally popped, but that's the only advice I have!

a little rum.....just enough to wet your finger, and rub it on her gums. i also would use a chilled wash cloth and put my finger inside their mouth- your finger inside the wash cloth scratches the gums and it helps with the tooth coming through

In a word...Tylenol. I was so apprehensive to medicate my first and so she was miserable. I didn't hesitate to give my second Tylenol since she got so many teeth so early. She, in turn we, were much happier people. Sometimes they won't eat due to the pain or the way it feels on their gums. Hope this helps.

I used to use this stuff called Camilia which is a liquid that you just squirt into their mouth. Or another I used were the teething tablets. You can purchase the teething tablets at Publix and I think the Camilia was obtainable at Health Food Stores. They seemed to work great for my daughter when she was that age and worked pretty fast. I hope this helps.

I used Humphries teething tablets. Same deal as Hylands, but no lactose. It is like magic. You can get them at Target, WalMart, or Walgreens (or on line).

My daughter just turned 16 months old and also just got her first tooth last month. She is usually a great sleeper and was getting up at night and wanting milk. I realized it was her teething but to avoid her from having anymore sleepless nights and to help with the clinginess I gave her infants Motrin and the teething tablets. The teething tablets are wonderful. My daughter sleeps through the night while she is teething with the tablets and Motrin. She is on her second tooth! I have a long way to go. Hopefully, all her teeth are in before #2. I am expecting in June.
Good Luck!

IF the rosy cheeks are from fever, give infant tylenol (always follow directions).
My 4 children all loved gum massages when they were teething. Simply rub the gums gently with finger. They also loved to just chew on my finger. Not comfortable for me, but much better than crying. Also teething biscuits and anything frozen.
I do not agree with the rum lady. Never good to give a child alcohol in any amount.
