I am the mother of a 9 month old and frankly I am bored to death of her usual diet of cereal(rice, oatmeal or barley) and fruit in the morning. Is there anything else that I can give her that is not bad health wise????I eat grits and eggs but she does not seem to like them very much and I did not want to overdue it on the eggs. She does eat table food but she is picky. Does anyone have any sugesstions.?

What can I do next?

A great book that I used was called "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. The book is really big and has lots of information in it, so you have to pick and choose the things that you have time to do (ie: making your own baby food). The best thing about the book is that it lists month by month the types of "real" foods to introduce to your baby according to age and ideas and recipes. My first daughter is now 4 and people are amazed at the things she loves to eat- broccoli, avacado.

I know when my son was that age I used to give him applesauce that had little to no sugar in it mixed with ceral as well as getting the ceral that had bananas in it and apples already added to it..He also liked the baby oatmeal with fruit in it..After he got a few teeth he would eat toast that was buttered and soft..You can also try some of the kids yougurt or just yougurt with fruit in it..Just don't give a lot of it at a time might mix it in with some of her cereal..Gerber also has some ceral that is in a jar that is mixed with a variety of fruits that my son used to love when he was little..Hope this helps :)

How about pancakes? There are a wonderful variety of healthy pancake mixes out there, including whole wheat and buckwheat (my kids, 4 and 2, love these). Top with apple sauce and cinnamon instead of syrup if you prefer. And they're soft enough even a baby without teeth can eat them.

Believe it or not I bought those cottage cheese doubles for myself when my daughter was a little less than one year old. I gave it to her not expecting her to like it and she loved it! dont give too much of it, but its a healthy and sweet treat. Also, the waffles are great because the get moist when they suck on them.

If she is feeding herself and has some teeth, Id give her anything she will eat, just make sure it is cut up so she wont choke. and don't limit her to only breakfast foods at breakfast times. Look outside the box, my son wouldn't eat cooked peas but LOVED them frozen, so that's how he got them! and if you don't have a history of allergy to eggs and she seems fine with them go ahead and give them, mix in cheese and other veggies like an omelet. But do hold off on the honey and peanut butter until one and some ppl will tell you 2. Good luck and don't worry about how much she is eating, she is still young and learning about food. My son didn't really take off until 10 mo and even then it was hit or miss until a year. Look at what she eats in a whole week not a day, to make sure it is ballanced. Make eating fun not a PITA. :)

Yogurt from stoneyfield farms (http://www.stonyfield.com/OurProducts/YoBaby.cfm)

The whole milk organic yogurts are excellent - source of protein, calcium and iron. In addition, yogurt is great for the babies digestive system. AND BEST OF ALL - most babies LOVE yogurt. I buy these but I also buy the big pots of yogurt and mix with fresh fruit. You can chop up blueberries, banana, pears...etc and mix with the yogurt for a nutritious breakfast. Also - I but wholegrain bread - you can put it into little pieces or little sticks for your baby to hold. A little bit of butter spread on it is good too. At this age your baby needs fat for healthy brain development. :)

My son is almost 10 months old and eats scrambled egg yolks (they shouldn't have the whites until 1 year), nutra-grain waffles (by themselves, cut into pieces) and regular oatmeal mixed with applesauce. I sometimes add a few cheerios too but he usually has those just as a snack.

At nine months, my son was eating diced fuits the gerber graduates) and all kinds of steamed veggies cut really small so he could gum them without choking. What I did was steam some carrrots and corn and mix it with a grean bean sauce (gerber or beech nut jar) or green beans and peas or broccoli and mix with some yellow or orange pureed veg (squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc).
He can eat what you eat, but making sure to add (or take away) what ever you can to keep in mind the rules for allergies and the "terrible three" - 1)high fructose corn syrup & other artificial sweetners 2)trans fats (hydrogenated oils) 3)any additive with a # symbol in front of it (i.e. red dye #40)
Also, if you give toast or other steamed and chopped table veggies, you should avoid butter for as long as you can. If she can develop a taste for things without the richness of butter, then her heart will thank you later on.
