Whenever my three year old gets nervous, upset or excited she breaks out in hives all over her face! They come fast and go fast. Its the strangest thing and I was wondering if anyone has a child that does has the same thing or if someone might know what this is?? Your advice is appreciated!

What can I do next?

Chiropractic, chiropractic, chiropractic. A great family practice who are amazing with kids is Inner Wisdom in Groton. Dr. Kim Pollack is a mom and the best! She can educate you about a subluxation that your daughter may have had from birth that is keeping her body from accomodating her stress.

No real advice, except to always encourage her to try new things, get her confidence up and not to avoid public speaking. I have a co-worker who is nearly 60, and has the same problem all her life.

Hi L. B,
My daughter had similiar reactions of hives but over her body as well. Since early childhood her hives have lessoned in frequency but have become more severe when active. I took her to an allergist and she was tested and determined some allergies. We have dealt with the cause of these allergies but she still has on going hives. A blood test was given to her and she was diagnosed with an auto immune desease. There is no known cure and little treatment available. We treat her with a daily dose of claritin as this medicine aids with hive reactions, we also have an epipen for serious onsets that can cause anafalactic shock if not responded to immediately. I recommend discussing this with your doctor. A simple blood test can tell you alot. good luck, D. W.

My mother does this when the stress of a situation is too high. Alleviate as much stress from her as possible. I know that you can't possibly "save" her from all the world's stress, but telling her that you are right there to protect her and you will do the talking, maybe these small things will help her.

Hi L.,
I've had great success using EFT for this kind of problem. EFT is a simple tapping technique which works with your meridians-like acupuncture without the needles. You can see the points on my website-www.eft-ayurveda.com. Have her tap the side of her hand when you suspect a break out coming on and say something along the lines of:
"Even though I'm so excited (nervous, scared, mad, etc.) I get spots on my face I'm a good girl" Then go through the tapping points (you can tap on her too) saying so excited! These spots etc.
Often the hives will just disappear, and your daughter will feel alot calmer.
I realize this all may sound very foreign to you, but as a parent nothing has been more useful to know!
Best of luck,
Stephanie

My 13-month daughter has the same thing, and I couldn't find any information online about it.
