Hi L., I use something similiar called EFT. I'm using it to help my son with his asthma and allergies. The website is www.emofree.com.

Has anyone had any experience using NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) with themselves or their children? I am exploring this option to help my 8 year old with a phobia and also anxiety. I am especially interested in hearing from someone who has used this with children. Any resources or suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow, how cool that others have not only heard of EFT, but are using it as well. I discovered it this past March and it is absolutely incredible! I love it so much that I am actually taking a Level 2 training this weekend to become a practioner. My goal is to focus on children. (I will also start trainging to also become a life coach next week and will use EFT as part of the life coaching.) The EFT lady I've been working with is amazing.
I would be happy to try and work with your son myself or to refer you to the lady I work with. Children do respond to this well- as of course, do adults. I've done it on my kids a few times and they love it. My daughter was having a bad dream one night and begged me to do EFT on her. I did and she immediately fell asleep.
A way I describe EFT to people (in addition to what others say) is that it is a quick and painless way to eliminate both physical and emotional pain. Oh and once it's gone, it's gone unless there is another aspect of the issue that wasn't tapped on.
Please feel free to contact me (or anyone else for that matter). Good luck with what you decide to do and please keep us posted.

L.,
Not knowing anything about the situation other than what you wrote, I am offering a technique that I use for clearing anxiety~ EFT (emotional freedom technique). It is not mainstream, but I have found much success from it (as well as many people I have personally spoken with). You can do it yourself, but if the phobias and anxiety are from trama, you may want to use a certified practitioner as emotion will come to the surface!
You can google EFT and find many differnt videos and people discussing it. I recommend the introductory video http://www.emofree.com/splash/video_popup.asp
EFT is based on the same principles as acupuncture. One uses the pressure points while going through the issue which is giving them static. The emotions are stirred up and then you can neutralize them with positive input, replacing the negative emotion.
I did this with my sister recently while she was visiting. Our father died when she was five months old. I moved away (age 19) when she was 9. We were tapping on some stuff she has and it went into feeling of abandonment. She did not even know she had these feelings. We were able to heal them right then and there and she has felt so much better and has been able to accomplish more in the past five months than she has in years. It is amazing the energy it takes to carry around old emotional garbage that we do not even know we have sometimes.
All the best with your son. I am sure it is painful to watch him suffer. Thank you for reaching out to help him!

L.,
I second what Christine has said. I personally have used tapping (EFT) to eliminate extreme anxiety about interstate driving. There are not enough words to tell you how successful this was for me. Then I used tapping again for my dentist phobia. Unbelievable. Had to have a root canal and was so relaxed I almost went to sleep in the dentist's chair. This technique is supposed to be very effective with children.
Also, one of my neighbors is a board certified holistic health counselor and EFT practitioner. Email me if you would like her contact information.

Good luck.
