Homeschooling - Dallas,TX

HELP! I have been co-teaching with another parent and we homeschool our children. Both my husband and I are working ( I work 3.5 - 4 days per week, have my own business) and must have help teaching (and need childcare until 5:30 or 6 pm three days per week). The other parent who has been co-teaching is manipulative and passive-agressive. I have reached the end of my rope. Are there any retired teachers out there who would like to take on 2 sweet girls? I have a 5 year old and an 8 year old. They are well-mannered. Does anyone else homeschool their children who would be willing to help us co-teach on M, Tu, W & Th? We need someone in East Dallas, Mesquite or the Lake Highlands area of Dallas. Any suggestions? Blessings to you who offer help, suggestions or connections! There MUST be another way (besides public schools and expensive private schools!).

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses...for clarification, I am struggling with the balance of work (3.5 days is not enough) and the amount of homeschooling I have been doing. My husband helps very little with homeschooling d/t work hours. I cannot just send my kids for childcare and then still have to do the homeschooling myself. We need play time! Our weekends are reserved for fun time as a family, gymnastics, birthday parties/social events and ice skaing. After work I do not have enough time homeschool since we spend at least 30 minutes driving, then need to make dinner (we do fresh salads and home cooked meals nearly every nite, do not do fast food), have dinner, get baths done and hope to have time to do some fun reading. I cannot START schooling at night. What child woud be at their best then?

I wish I could help you out! I'm way too far away (North Richland Hills), but I homeschool my girls. They are 6 and 4, and I also have a 4 mo old girlie.

I like the ideas already posted, though:). If you are ever coming out to Ft Worth PM me. We have museum passes and we'd love to have some new friends.

Out of curiosity... why not just have school days on the days you're home? 3 days a week is more than enough for most kids to keep them at or above grade level. Same token, is there a reason why not to do school for an hour or so in the evenings, either, in addition to when you're not working? And their daycare provider can *very* easily supervise homework time... most do of school age kids. Not actual teaching time, but practice time.

I think the suggestion of a college kid is probably your best option. I wish I could help you, but I live in Corinth. You might be able to find a college/nanny at a reasonable price. Maybe even look into a home preschool who would love to have a couple of older girls they could teach and could help teach the little ones. It would be good for everyone. I'll pray for the right option for you.

You might consider joining a coop or homeschool group to see if you can find someone. I think you are asking more for childcare at that age with someone who will help them with their work. The beauty of homeschool as has been pointed out is the flexibility plus 3-4 hours is more than enough at that young age. I homeschool my 17 year old, am in your area but don't have the time to take care of two younguns 4 days per week....perhaps you can restructure your business where you could consider a college kid....good luck!

I wish I could help you, but I'm in Arlington, so I'm not anywhere near you. I'm a registered home daycare provider, and I also have teaching credentials, so I would be happy to have them, but probably not since you're so far away. I hope you find someone! Good luck!

Riley J took the words right out of my mouth. The beauty of homeschooling is the flexibility. You don't have to do school 5 days a weeks from 8am to 3pm. You can school Fri-Sun and assign "homework" to be done with the sitter (perhaps you can find a nice older lady to come to your home?) Mon-Thurs.
Get creative!

I've heard of a group that has classes for homeschoolers in Desoto called DasChE- don't know if it's close to you or not. Here's a website for them https://www.homeschool-life.com/sysfiles/member/custom_pu... I'm sure there must be others around Dallas. I've also checked into University Model Education schools, which is like part schooling, part homeschooling as kids only attend a few days a week, for shorter hours, and can pick the classes as it's expected parents homeschool the other classes. They have some in the area, and some are charter so don't charge tuition. One is opening up, in Grand Prairie, so I know not close to you, but they'll have classes M-F 8-12. This probably isn't what you're looking for, but there could be charter schools similar, close to you. I suggest checking out some local homeschool groups, charter schools, or co-op classes to get to know other parents in your area that maybe you could work out some exchange with. We've just been homeschooling a couple years, and had to do some searching to find a local group of homeschoolers. It has been invaluable to join a group for a variety of reasons, and maybe you'll find someone to help you out in one near you. Good luck!

This website is for University modeling schooling. The kids go to school 2-3 days a week and you teach them the remainder of the week. Tuition is very reasonable. It's just another option.
