i pay $90 a week in NJ and that does not include laundry. also a small house.
Hi everyone.
I am looking to hire a housekeeper in Nov. Im working, pregnant and have a 15month and a dog that sheds like crazy...I need help. I wanted someone that could come 1/week but will do everything including laundry. Does anyone know how much it should be per week. I had someone a few years back and I paid her 85 biweekly but didn't have the baby then. Do you pay less if its weekly?
My house is not huge. 3br 1 1/2 bath and living room playroom and kitchen. Any suggestions would be great.
Thank you.

That rate still sounds good. My friend pays $80-90 for a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath house. This doesn't include laundry but does include cleaning all bathrooms. The housekeeper comes just once every three weeks, but I would think you could negotiate a better rate if she came more frequently.

I was just talking about this with a friend. I have someone that comes once a week so there's not THAT much to do since it's every week. I have 4 br 2.5 ba, fam rm, living room, din rm, and we only pay $80 - however, I have had her for 11 years and she's never asked me to increase the amount I pay. I think I've steered her to other business so maybe she hasn't asked for an increase. I sometimes think I should just offer one but I don't know. She also only cleans the house and changes the sheets. She does not do the laundry, not even the sheets.
Good luck!
I'd say that in this economy, you have a lot of leverage in price. I'd meet a few ladies and have them look at the house. When they give you a price, tell them that you are looking to pay X for just cleaning and Y for cleaning and laundry. For a house your size, I'd assume 3 hours. Not sure how much laundry will get done in that time? I'd say that you can likely find someone for 60 and 80 with laundry.
Also, put an ad on Craigslist with the price you are willing to pay. I bet you'll get may responses!
Good luck - and many happy clean days!! :)
I just hired one 1 week ago. she will come in once per week I paid her 85 for the day. laundry and clean up on week and throughly cleaning the next week. If you live in new york and want her contact me @ ____@____.com need help or else we will get beat out..I have a 21/2 yr old and a 9 months old. Good luck
My mother cleans houses for a living. She charges by the hour, $25 an hour. It starts with the 1st few weeks of getting paied hourly, and then she takes an average and that is the set amount, so if the house averages 4 hours, that is $100 unless there are extra things that need doing. Now one week it might take only 3 hours (still $100) and another it might take 5 hence the average of 4 hours. But she has been doing it for more then 18 years. (profesionally at least, at home time doesnt count!) I dont know how others charge, just telling you what I know from my Mom. (currently she does 8 houses I think, but it might be 9 lol)
I think you should expect to pay about $20 per hour Doing laundry, including folding, will add a lot of time and expense. If the person is doing the same amount of work and spending the same amount of time cleaning your house, you won't pay less having her come only once a week, if it's $85 to clean your house and takes 4 hours, it would still cost that for a 4 hour cleaning once a week
