How Do I Get Red Kool-Aid Stains Out of Carpet?

My brother & sister-in-law have had a roommate for the past year. While he was gone on vacation, they went in his room to clean out some of the trash in there and found an old red kool-aid stain on the carpet. They've tried OxiClean & another carpet cleaner but they didn't work. Anybody have any other ideas or tricks that have worked for them? They live in an apartment so this is going to make a difference with getting their deposit back when they move. Thanks!

What can I do next?

It may not work on a stain that old, but what I use for everything is Windex. Other BLUE window cleaners work too. (Purple or white doesn't work so it is something in the blue coloring.) I have been able to get dark green frosting out with this.

Try saturating it with window cleaner and then take a clean, damp towel and blot it. I put the towel down and step on it. Don't rub, it just makes the mess go deeper.

The other thing you might try takes a little nerve and I don't know if it would work or not, so if you try it, you are on your own. (Don't blame me.)

Here goes: When I was in beauty school I learned that to get hair color stains out you use hair color. The principle is this, "like takes out like." If the carpet was ruined anyway, it might be worth trying this. Fill an empty spray bottle with diluted kool-aid in the same color(at least twice as much water as usual.) Don't add sugar, just the powder. When it is saturated, spray it with window cleaner and blot as above. I believe it would work, but haven't had a reason to test it. If you do try it, tell us all what happens. The worst that would happen is a slightly darker shade of red.

Mix warm water with Dawn dish soap. Let it sit on the stain for a little (not to the point it dries). Cover with a cotton towel and iron it up. The steam from the iron helps pull the stain up. It might take a few times, but it will get lighter and lighter every time.

Another one who says the dawn dishsoap and an iron. I had 5 red kool-aid stains on my carpet and was sure I was going to have to replace it. I tried this thinking there was no way it would work and the stains COMPLETELY came out. Tell them to stop spending money on cleaners and just buy a bottle of dawn. :)

I put the oxy clean in my carpet shampooer and it usually takes out anything. If they aren't using a carpet steam cleaner but just the bottled carpet cleaning solution, they may have to rent a steam cleaner. It will pull up the stuff from the bottom. I would have the roommate pay for the deposit that they won't be getting back if it doesn't work.
