I would really like to know if there's an easy way to get the throw up smell out of carpet? Any home remedies anyone knows about? I've already steam cleaned the carpet this afternoon and thought the smell was gone, but I just went in my daughters room and the smell almost made me throw up myself!! Please help, I'm nauseated!!
Thanks, H.

What can I do next?

I had my carpets cleaned by Sears and they advised me to use a solution of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 club soda to clean any spots in my carpet. Give that a try along with baking soda once the carpet has dried. Best of luck - let me know if it works!

I am a simple person - I don't run out and buy CERTAIN things for certain jobs.

I get a bucket of soapy water and a good rag --- clean up what I can of the biggest mess - then wash my hands with an antibacterial soap then before rinsing, scrub those suds into the carpet... then scrub it up with the rag that has been rinsed and in a bucket of clear water. Keep doing this until the smell is gone - shouldn't take more than 2-3 times.

Believe me - I've cleaned a lot of messes like this and almost make more of the same, when I smell it!

A product that works is called OdorzOut. It is sold in Petsmart or Petco stores, I can't remember which. Great for all bodily function odors especially on fabrics and beds. Good luck.

H., my son threw up in my car and I used a pet deodorizer. I let it sit on the area for a day or so and then swept it up.
Good luck. M.

Have you tried any of the biological cleaners like Bac-out? They don't mask the odor, but help get rid of the bacteria causing it. We had great luck with the stuff for cat urine, stinky diapers, and such. You can get it at health food stores and frequently pet stores as well.

You have to soak the area with the problem, then blot it up with a rag or towel. We helped such spots dry (which included our mattress when the girls were potty training!) by setting a fan up to blow across them.

Good luck!

H. try pure baking soda.
Just pour it on and let it sit a day or 2 if you can.
I had a cat that had an accident and it took the odor out! And we all know, if it can take the smell of cat urine out, it should take any smell out!! And it's inexpensive.

Hey H.! I use a product called Sol-U-Mel made by a wellness company. It doesnt cover up the smell- it gets it all the way out and it is safe to use. It works fast so there is little scrubbing. The smell of the product will leave the room smelling fresh and clean ... so no more bad smells!! :)

You might try getting some Nature's Miracle from the pet store. I don't know if it will work since you have already cleaned the carpet. Another thing to try is vinegar and water.

H.,
Everyone else has covered the basics, but when it happened to me, my mother advised a solution of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. Saturate offending area and let sit five minutes. Then sop up any remaining liquid. When carpet feels dry liberally pour baking soda. Again let it sit, then vacuum up. Finally, give it a good febreezing.

My son was 18 mos when he had a terrible stomach bug for 10 days. I was cuddling him in our rocker/recliner when he threw up all over me and it. I could not sit in the chair without gagging until I did the vinegar/baking soda/febreeze.

I don't have pets so I've never heard of the pet stuff others have recommended. Good luck to you momma.

The worst is over. It really does go away with time, as nasty as that seems. I know how bad the smell is. When my children vomit I'll go to great lengths to make sure it doesn't get on the carpet - including but not limited to catching it in my hands!

Ok--we've tried EVERYTHING to get smells out of our carpet. NOTHING compares to "Urine-Off". When you order it on-line it comes with a blacklight. You can scan your entire house to find any type of bodily fluid that may be on your carpet (snot, spit, vomit, urine, etc.). It has enzymes that eats the odor away. It leaves a refreshing smell that eventually goes away and the other odor is completely gone. It is SO worth the money.

(This works especially well on cat pee. Nothing else takes that smell out of carpet.)

Try Nature's Miracle at pet stores or OdorXit. The second can be found online. It takes smoke odor out as well as other funky odors.

Try baking soda. Sprinkle it on and let it sit for about an hour or so, then vaccum it away. It really works well for pet odor too.

I have used one of the "oxy" cleaners - either for pet stains or just "people" messes and it works really well.

Nature's Miracle, you can get it at any pet store. It is a natural enzyme cleaner and we used it for everything. I hope this helps!
