My daughter is 10 y.o. And she broke her tailbone back in February. the doctor said it healed up nicely but she's still feeling pain near her tailbone. I'm sure there's at least one person who broke their tailbone and can give me some insight about this and tell me how long the pain will actually last or if it's going to be an ongoing problem. The doctor told me she shouldn't have anymore discomfort after a couple weeks after breaking it, or at least no longer than 6 weeks. Any insight will be appreciated.
Thank you to everyone for their advice. I did teacher her back to the doctor and she had an xray done and found out she still has a small fracture and put on steroids for a week. But they also sent her in for a CT scan and said she has no fracture but spondylitis I believe it's called but she couldn't explain to me what causes the condition. She could only tell me that it's a common condition in young people. On Monday, I'm making an appointment with her regular physician and hopefully will be able to get to the bottom of this. I don't want my girl being in pain or have a condition she might need treatment for and not receive the care she needs.

It can take a LONG time. My coworker broke hers over the winter and she's still in pain sometimes. I broke my ankle 2 years ago in January and I still have pain sometimes. Things just take a long time...especially when you aren't able to rest it.
But I agree with Julie and what Mike will say, you should consult the doctor on this one.

unfortunately, it's a hard call.
I fell and broke my tailbone on my birthday in 2014. I STILL have residual pain every once in a while. It was a good 6 weeks before it didn't hurt every day. I was 48 when that happened.
I have the butt pillow for my chair since I work from home and sit at a desk most of the day. that helped A LOT.
My sister broke hers years ago, and she swears when it rains, it aches. So I suspect it might hurt for some time, especially when sitting.
My sister saw a physiotherapist and has a little pillow that she uses - forces her to sit forward on her bum. So she's shifted the weight. Something like that (seeing a physiotherapist) might help relieve pressure.

I am sure Mike will be along with his caveat, talk to your doctor but still, you need to talk to your doctor.
Never broke a tailbone but I did sprain my ankle once. Like a real sprain, ya know, where the ligaments tear, not the oh I rolled my ankle and I will call it a sprain? It is supposed to heal and have no pain after 6 months. Even a year later I swore I was still feeling pain and it would pop apart if I even ran. It was my fear causing it not to heal. I needed to move but I was scared. I feel like the psychological sometimes needs to be addressed and if her daughter is saying she is healed you may be dealing with something psychological.

Have you asked the doctor? He needs to know she's still in pain.

Takes a long time! I broke mine a long time ago and remember it taking forever. It's not intense like when it first happens, but there if you know what I mean.

She might have some pain for the rest of her life.
My girlfriend broke her tailbone when she was young and it was something like 10 years before she was pain free but some people always have some issues that never quite go away.
I hope your daughters pain will go away sooner than later.

I fell and broke mine over a year ago and I am still in awful pain any time I sit for more than a few minutes. If I sit on a hard folding chair or a chair with a certain angle where my tailbone is just right I can be in so much pain that tears form in my eyes and I have to get up and walk around to stop it.
When your tailbone is hurting you need to either lay down or sit on a very squishy air donut thing or sit on a couch like thing.

I broke mine near the beginning of my high school years. It hurt off and on all through high school and college because of all the sitting in classes. After all those years I thought it was just going to be like that always. But now in my job I don't sit all day, and I don't feel it any more.

She's likely got some muscular issues going on around the area as a result of the break.
Tight enough muscles can press on nerves and create local pain, even if the bone is healed.
Try seeing someone like a chiro, massage therapist, or physical therapist.

I have broken my tailbone before, and even though it healed cleanly and well, it still hurt for a year. Sitting makes it worse, and those funny-looking inflatable donut cushions really do help. I'm going to echo the folks below - this is one to ask her doctor just to be sure.

Unfortunately, it can hurt (at least sporadically) for several years. I broke mine when I was 11 or 12 and it still bothered me from time to time in high school.

I fell rollerblading and bruised my knee. It was actually bruised for 8 months. It was about a year before I could kneel in church. A break would take much longer I think but I would certainly check with a doctor. Perhaps they will want an MRI. I have a broken bone in my foot that I need to get surgically removed since it didn't heal. In any event the bone has shifted and now between two bones I have an occult ganglion cyst.
Best of luck!
