How Long Does It Take for Cycle to Return After Miscarriage?

First, I'm very sorry. I've has 3 miscarriages in between my first daughter and my twin daughter and son, and I think my periods returned about a month after each loss.

I'm sure it varies, but go ahead and call your dr, that's what they get paid for. You may have to have your hCG level tested.

I remember getting blood tests after each one to test for hCG levels (what home preg test detect) to determine if the preg was completely disappearing. I guess the menstrual cycle will not resume until every last tiny cell/remnant is gone. I suppose how late into your preg also is a factor. Normally, the hCG gradually goes down.

Make sure you have at least one supportive person that lets you express your feelings! Hearing things like "Be happy you already have a child." "You can try again." "It wasn't meant to be." don't really help, do they? Your loss matters and so does your grief.

I am so sorry for your loss. My second pregnancy ended at 21 weeks. Actually, the fetus died at 19 weeks and I had a D&C at 21 weeks. My body didn't realize it had died. Then I needed Progesterone to help me have a period (for 4 cycles). Hormonally, I was messed up and wasn't having periods on my own. I would definately talk with your dr. He/she will know whether you need help to have a period or whether it's ok to let it go for now. I know with my history, sometimes the dr. is ok with me not having a period, but other times he feels I need to have one. I hope everything turns out ok for you. Take care.

Hey JK.. sorry to hear about your loss. I was prego last december & miscarried in January. I got on the nuvaring to force my period to get back on track. Had that in in March took it out in April and had a period. I was due for another period around May 5th and never got one.. Didn't know till bout 3 wks later, but I was pregnant again. Now I'm in my 5th month and things are looking good! See if you can get a nuvaring from your doctor to kinda kick start your cycle again. Good Luck!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Sometimes miscarriage can make your hormones go a little wonky. If you don't want to do the nuvaring (although that's a good idea) a perscription for prometrium (progesterone) can help line things back out. I would call the OBGYN to get in and see what he/she thinks is best.

First of all, don't underestimate the loss you may still feel over the miscarriage. It is easy to get wrapped up in "trying again", but the feelings over this loss may creap up on you later.
In July of 2001- I found out I was pregnant with my first. We celebrated the news with family and were SOOOO happy. In late August, I miscarried at 8 weeks. I was told to wait through at least one or two cycles before trying to get pregnant again. Well, 4 weeks later, I was pregnant. My son is now a happy and healthy 6 year old! I would not recommend this was necessarily the best choice (we were just careless really...), but things can turn out OK in the end.

I would call the doctor unless you think you might be pregnant again. I actually dropped my miscarrage on the 13 of July. Bleed out for six days and then got my next period on the 23 of August hard and heavy. Bleed for 4 days as usual. So was is that.... 41 days or 5.8 weeks, roughly six weeks. Do you have any signs...acne, chocolate or salt carvings, mood swings, are you crying at commerials or dum stuff? But I would think eight weeks is long enough to want to be checked.
